Intro.
Aight so if you're like me then you probably also searched up and down looking for a way to get rid of that gosh darn mouse movement. Problem is the game has no way of doing that itself and other guides are mentioning source ports and other confusing technical stuff. Well if you follow my guide then at most all you'll be changing is one line of code and two hex values. "But wait" you say. "Isn't that confusing tech talk?" Don't worry guys I got pictures for that. I have to make this guide look somewhat professional, right?

To start, officially, I'm listing the two things you'll need since it's what I have and it works for me. You'll first need this little gem right here called "novert" https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/utils/misc/novert
and this funky hex editor "HxD"
https://mh-nexus.de/en/downloads.php?product=HxD20

Now the hex editor may not be necessary since everyone might not have the same issues, but I ran into one that needed some hexing so I'm putting it here just in case.
Novert
Aight step one:
You downloaded novert from the link above and don't know what to do with the thing. Well don't worry, it's almost as easy as dragging and dropping files into place. Now what you want to do is right-click on your Rise of the Triad game, hover over "Manage" and click on "Browse local files". Open the Rise of the Triad folder and, as simply as that, drag 'n drop novert in there with the rest of the game files.

Aight now comes the part with the professional pictures because we ain't done. I want you to find a file called "ROTT.CONF".

Pic for reference:

Open up ROTT.CONF in notepad and scroll down to the "Autoexec" paragraph near the very bottom. Once there you need to add "novert.com" like so:

Save the changes you made and that's that.

Aight so with that one line of code, launching you're game through Steam should make it launch "novert" first and the game second, as far as my tech savvy-ness is concerned, but I got a part 2 just in case you run into some dank menu-ing problems.
Messing with hexes
Aight part 2 of my professional guide if your game menu is bein' unprofessional with you. Is it constantly scrolling up? Is it not responding to your vain efforts of fighting with the controls, so you just sit there pressing "Enter" at the right time to navigate instead? Well I had that problem and I'll tell you it's a hex problem. So Imma tell you how to hex it right back instead.

Before I start though, I gotta give credit where it's due. You know, to stay professional.
Shout out to reddit user Retro_BM. I wouldn't have found this solution without their help. Doin' God's work, eliminating mouse movement wherever it rears its ugly head. I'll be linking their solution down here, but I'll still go through the process with you guys for the sake of the guide:
https://www.reddit.com/r/dosbox/comments/ybopym/problem_using_novert_with_wolfenstein_3d/

Now I'm assuming you all already downloaded the hex editor I linked above, right? Ok, good. What we gonna do is "patch" novert, so I want ya'll to open HxD. Once it's open you mouse over to "File" and click "Open". Now if it doesn't automatically have you open up to your Rise of the Triad folder, you may have to hunt through layers of folders in your C drive to find it, but that shouldn't be a problem. Anyways, select your "novert" file and it should open up to this:

Confusing, right? Well don't worry, you'll only be changing two values. What you want to do is change these two values near the top-left: 33 changed to B2, and D2 changed to 64.

After:

Aight and with that you save your changes and you officially "patched" novert! Now when you launch your game through Steam, your menu should be actin' all professional-like and you won't be havin' none of that pesky mouse movement. I hope this guide helped!
Credits again to redditor Retro_BM for the hex fix, Maël Hörz at mh-nexus.de for HxD and Istvan Pataki over at doomworld.com for blessing us with novert.

@SirNathan007 thanks for the info, but i just reinstalled the game and coped with the weird menu problems instead of trying to fix it with the hex editor (thats what caused the game to not start)

Have you tried reinstalling the game, or running as administrator? I guess it doesn't help much that I'm offering generic solutions, but. honestly, I've never run into that kind of problem before. The game works fine on my end. If I had to hazard a guess, then maybe the problem is happening with "novert." Try making sure you "novert" is in the location specified in the guide, since I'm suspecting that (assuming you added that one line of code in ROTT.CONF as well) dosbox is calling "novert" first and can't find it.

I'm sorry if this doesn't help, but all I can really say is to try a fresh install of the game and follow the guide exactly. I'm not so tech-savvy myself and only got all this stuff to work after a couple of days of research.

sos! whenever i open the game, it just gives a generic dos screen instead of giving me the options to run the game!

Thank you so much for this guide, now I can finally enjoy this game without raging over accidental deaths.
