DLC Requirements: This mod requires both Rise & Fall and Gathering Storm DLC to use.

Introduces the African Kanem Bornu to Civilization VI.



This custom civilization is led by Mai Idris Alauma, who is fully animated in the diplomacy screens. He is released as part of the Modder Pass, a supplementary release to Firaxis' official Great Negotiators Leader Pass that was recently released.

Leader Unique Ability
People of Gold and Silver
Receive a free Trader in your Capital after unlocking the Foreign Trade civic, as well as several other key economic civics and technologies throughout the game.

+2 Gold from every International Trade Route.

Trade routes sent from other civilizations to Kanem Bornu provide +2 Gold for Kanem Bornu.


Civilization Unique Ability
Girgam
Unlock the Holy War Casus Belli with Mysticism. Yields are improved from Pillaging and Coastal Raids for all units.

Civilization Unique Improvement
Ribat
An improvement unique to Kanem Bornu, similar to the Fort. However, it is unlocked earlier, with Construction, and can be built by Builders.

It provides half of the Fortification bonuses of the Fort. In addition, it yields +1 Gold as standard - becoming +3 Gold after discovering Guilds.


Civilization Unique District
Oja Oba
A district unique to Kanem Bornu, which can be constructed in one city in place of the Commercial Hub. It provides the same bonuses as the Commercial Hub, including adjacency bonuses.

In addition, it provides +4 Loyalty and +1 Amenity in the City it is constructed.

Markets of other civilizations within 16 tiles of the Oja Oba yield -2 Gold.


Civilization Unique Units
Mounted Musketeer
Unique ranged Cavalry Unit of the Kanem Bornu, with increased Movement on Desert Tiles.

Kotoko
Unique Naval Unit, replacing the Caravel, which can perform Coastal Raids with yields doubled from such raids. Cannot enter Ocean Tiles. Can also build the Fishing Boats improvement.

This mod also replaces the Ngazargamu City-State with the Kebbi City-State.

Mod Compatibility
This mod includes code to make it compatible with Tomatekh's Historical Religions.

This should be compatible with most other popular mods, including UI mods, as well as any mods that add new units or features in bulk to the game. Please report specific incompatibilities you might notice in the comments section, citing the mod with which you believe this to be incompatible.

If its not already supported, Could you add support to Saphs Africa Plus TSL maps? Adding Kanem would make for some epic African battles

Please Change capital name to Ngazargamu
Njimi was 11th ~ 14th century capital
Ngazargamu was 1460 ~ 1809 capital

Mai Idris Alauma(1570–1602/03 or 1580–1617) made Ngazargamu as Bornu's leading center for Islamic education.

I've just pushed a small update, which should deal with the animation bugs that some have noticed (thank you for reporting those).

I have also increased the count of named cities to 20 (from 15), for good measure.

@afadel97 That's a base game issue for when a civ has founded more cities than they have possible names for that civilization.

@MC I restarted the game and was able to complete it. One other issue I found: cities I founded later in the game were given names of USA cities ...

@afadel97: those errors can be generated by a wide array of reasons, so it is difficult to pinpoint it by the error alone unfortunately.

Can you share what moment in the game it occurred, what your game setup was and an idea of what mods you had enabled?

Those errors can absolutely get thrown when there's bad code/files in a mod, but can also occur when the game 'maxes out' on the number of assets being used, for example. Very occasionally, they can also be one-offs.

I am not saying it definitely isn't my mod - but this is the first such report of this I've heard and in all of my testing it never happened, either.

Happy to try and help if you are able to share a bit more detail.

Just to acknowledge: I've had a quick look at the setup. I can see that I've forgotten to bind an animation. I will get this corrected during the course of this week.
