R.U.S.T. Freighter Variants
8 items
Description
The R.U.S.T. Corvette is a variant of the original R.U.S.T. Freighter created by Aragath and modified by me to become this light attack ship. Consistent with the revised design that appears in the current game, this build is modless, but does use some decorative DLC. The ship's basic hull structure is mostly unchanged, but has been revised somewhat from the existing design to add new features such as turret mount locations, hydrogen thrusters for superior acceleration and maneuvering, and a jump drive.

Offensive armament consists of a railgun, four artillery cannons, and two rocket launchers. Defensive armament consists of two Gatling turrets, one missile turret, and eight interior turrets.

This ship is capable of interplanetary flight, but must be done carefully as little thrust-to-weight margin exists for the design, especially on Pertam. A jump drive is included for long-distance travel, and full accommodations are provided for two players.

NOTES FOR BUILDING WITH A PROJECTOR IN SURVIVAL
1. Build a projector atop two stacked armor blocks that's located on a powered grid.
2. Load the blueprint into the projector; click on the setting to retain the blueprint after construction is complete.
3. Build the blueprint.
4. When completed, grind away the armor block, leaving the projector in place so future repairs can be easily made.

WHY DID I ORIGINALLY DO THIS?
I was recently playing a new survival game with lots of hostile NPCs, starting in space with nothing but my basic welder, hand drill, grinder, an oxygen and hydrogen tank, and guts. I found a SPRT Commercial Freighter, disabled the defenses, and started revising it to fix existing parts and add some refineries so I could expand operations. Soon thereafter a R.U.S.T. Freighter wandered by, so I captured it and decided that it would serve well as a mobile base of operations (my goal was to get to the alien planet). I broke down the commercial freighter for parts, but was soon attacked by hostile drones before I could finish. The R.U.S.T. ship was badly damaged from the drone attacks, so I started expanded its defenses, adding layers of turrets that would protect the ship with fields of overlapping fire. I soon realized, with its four small reactors, that I could easily power a railgun, so I removed the first cargo container and fitted the railgun in front. I added four artillery cannons so I would have second-level assault capability while the railgun recharged, and two rocket launchers when the action got up-close and personal. With the long-range railgun and artillery cannons, I was able to rid the universe of spawned SPRT (and other) hostile factions and plunder their smoking hulks for additional parts. Although largely the same, this design has been optimally tweaked from my original design changes to make the best use of existing space within the ship's framework.
