M1905 6in. 'Disappearing Gun' Coastal Battery Emplacements [Enviroment Mod]

Description
Coastal defense batteries have long dotted the coastlines of the world defending both homeland and territories abroad. These emplacements were often heavily fortified and capable of withstanding sieges for weeks or even months. As technology improved, so did the construction of these mighty guns. One such innovation was the use of a carriage that could swing the gun upwards and over the parapet of the emplacement, and once fired swung back down for reloading. This concealed the gun from the enemy, and allowed for it to be reloaded in relative safety by the gun crew.
This gun is a replica of the M1905 6in. Breach Loading Rifle mounted on a Buffington and Crozier Disappearing Gun Carriage of the type used by the US Army during the 'Endicott Era', and is presented as it would have looked circa the 1930s.

These gun emplacements dot the Sawyer Island protecting inlets and harbors, and can be used to defend the island from enemy shipping. The emplacements contain ammunition for the main gun, small arms, and minimal living space for the gun crew. They offer decent protection from direct fire weapons, but offer little protection from aircraft or 'top down' firing missiles. The emplacements are also within close enough proximity to each other so as to provide interlacing fields of fire.

M1905 GUN SPECIFICATIONS:
Max Range: 4000M
Point Target Range: 2500M
Magazine Round Count: 136 HE Shells

***PLEASE REFERENCE THE SCREENSHOTS ABOVE AS MANY BUTTONS AND ITEMS ARE HIDDEN FROM VIEW***

***PLEASE ENSURE YOU HAVE INFINITE AMMO TURNED 'OFF' IN THE CUSTOM MENU***

OPERTAION:

---Proceed to the 'Utility Room'---
  • Turn 'on' the "Bunker Low Voltage" Breaker
  • Turn 'on' the "Magazine Elevator" Breaker
---Proceed to the 'Orderly Room'---
  • Turn 'on' the "Fire Control Direct" Telephone
(This will provide ranging information to the 'Range Scribe' on the gun deck)
---Proceed to the Gun Deck---
  • Climb onto the Upper Gun Platform and traverse the gun onto target, using the "Traversing Crank"
  • Once sighted use the "Elevation Wheel" located on the Lower Gun Platform to range the target
(use the target range provided by the 'Range Scribe')
  • Open the Gun Breech with the "Breech Crank"
  • Call the "Ammo Cart"
(once the cart has stop moving, stand near it and wait for the gun to load and the breech to close)
  • Climb back onto the Upper Gun Platform, verify the target, and press the "Counterweight tripping Pedal"
  • Fire the gun using the "Electrical Firing Dynamo" when ready
  • Once the gun is lowered, use the "Breech Crank" to open the breech and press the hidden button "Swab Breech"
  • Repeat the process by calling the "Ammo Cart"

NOTES:
  • Failing to 'Swab the Breech' can result in a massive explosion when the gun is reloaded due to hot embers still burning in the gun's chamber. However, waiting 30 seconds between firing and reloading can prevent these explosions as well.
  • If by chance you choose to raise the gun when unloaded, you can then lower it by turning the "Manual Retraction Crank" located on the Lower Gun Platform. The gun is fully lowered when you can no longer turn the crank. Prior to which you will be unable to reload the gun.
  • The "Battery Party Line" telephone is for calling other nearby gun emplacements. Turn the telephone on, and press your 'Push to Talk' hotkey. You can also receive calls, when you hear the telephone ring, turn on the telephone and press your 'Push to Talk' hotkey to speak.*
*Note: The batteries can only communicate with nearby guns, so you will need to relay calls from one gun to the next if needed.

Theoddball972, sorry your have trouble. The scope does not adjust along the vertical/ranging axis. Ranging is gained via the information provided by the Range Scribe. Who in turn (in the real world) would have received that information from Spotting Emplacements/Towers.

Granted, his range data isn't always the most accurate based on how the game handles ranging data from radar. But it is accurate enough to get you close, at which point you can start "bracketing" you target. By firing rounds long, then short, and progressively narrowing the actual range down to a hit.

Sounds complex, but it's easier then you think and also accurate to how real artillery operates, even today.

Hope that helps!

Good mod, but I can't get the vertical aiming system to work in my favor. Could you add a telescope to the lower part of the cannon so it is easier to see if I am on target vertically?

starbuckcolin, sorry you're again having trouble. My initial guess is your physics is set to 'low', try 'medium', or preferably 'high'.
Hope that helps!

apparently the counterweight only really trips when I am on the ladder leading up to the platform..?
