Description
Conrail E8 Locomotive

Background
The E8 was a 2,250-horsepower (1,678 kW), A1A-A1A passenger-train locomotive built by General Motors' Electro-Motive Division (EMD) of La Grange, Illinois. A total of 450 cab versions, or E8As, were built from August 1949 to January 1954. They were used to haul passenger trains until the 70s, when they were re-geared for freight service and wound up in the fleet of Conrail. Amtrak used E8s until the late 70s. Conrail had many E8s used for freight service, but some were painted in a special scheme and used to pull business trains.

This locomotive is compatible with all ESS-2 and WABSIM equipped trains and rolling stock. I recommend subscribing to the linked Conrail Office Car Special passenger cars if you want something to pull.

Startup
Open the electrical cabinet and turn on the HEP RELAY and BATTERY BREAKER switches, as well as the four breaker switches on the left. In the engineer's seat, flip on the three switches on the left of the control stand- GENERATOR FIELD, FUEL PUMPS, and CAB LIGHT. Head into the engine room and find the engine control panels. Turn on the ENGINE RUN/ISOLATE, PRIME MOVER SYSTEMS, and AUX FUEL PUMP switches and then hold the starter until RPM > 200. Repeat this step for both engines and head back into the cab.
Cab Configuration
-If the engine is operating as a single or leading unit... Turn on the ENGINE RUN switch on the control stand. On the floor, turn on the automatic brakes cut-in switch. Release the independent brake, and you're good to go. -If the engine is operating as trailing unit in MU operations... Grab a cable from the electrical cabinet and use it to connect the leading locomotive to the trailing locomotive(s). MU cable anchors are located on the nose and tail of each locomotive and are painted red. In the trailing locomotive, ensure the reverser is set to neutral, ENGINE RUN switch is off, automatic brakes are cut out, and all brakes (including the independent) are released. You can also use the headlight controller in the electrical cabinet if you want the trailing locomotive's lights to work but it isn't needed.

Okay, after my rant, I studied more about WABSIM and ESS, especially their purpose of built. So it was tp make a historical replica of old day's loco and their control systems, so no coupler connetion for ESS and DPU, which is well recognized and understood now.

However, the biggest problem even with this is that your DPU control panel has "none" for the DPU control, which makes in unable to send DPU signal over radio, which made me think "if then the DPU signal should be wired too, that doesn't make sense because DPUs should/could be placed all over the trains". Nevertheless, it was clearly my misunderstanding, so I aplogize.

Another minor improvement would be set the engine room door to open in the opposite direction, so not toward cabin but the engine room. Much better and easier to get in and out.

I mean you can just put 2 electric connectors on the coupling arm, and set one to carry the ESS signals, so you don't need to hook up cables. Also, the rolling stocks don't need to process nor do anything with the ESS signal, so they just can directly relay the signal back and forth with the secondary electric connector. I just modified all of them right after leaving my comment.

ESS is meant to go through cables, not couplers, and the couplers carry WABSIM brake signals. I have no idea what a multi-functional coupler is and that's not how this locomotive works in real life. As for double headers that isn't possible without a second crew or DPU controls in real life either. The other electric cables are for decoration. As for the rest of the feedback, I'll take it into account on my next build! :)

I ... I just discovered that the electric cable anchors that aren't red are not even connected to the battery. They're stupidly redundant and serve zero function, when you don't have the single connector to relay the most relevant signal. I'm speechless.

However, with all the "interesting" decisions made, the single biggest problem is, why the hell didn't you put a 2nd connector on the coupler to relay ESS?? I precisely have 0 idea why I need to hook up extra cables when I already have the multi-functional coupler is on, but that's not even the most important issue. Your rolling stocks don't even have the stupid red electric cable anchor to even relay the ESS signals, so you can't even make a double headed train. I would've been okay if this was due to some proper technical difficulties or too much effort needed. Da fuq, you wasn't even able to put 2 connectors?????

if you are struggling with reversing, you can go into the trailing locomotive, turn 'engine run' on and set the reverser to forward, it should work then

I'm not sure if I did something wrong, but when I connected all the cars that you had to this train, it only moves at 7.23 mph. I followed all the instructions and also turn all the cars lights on. I even turn on the gens for the double deck cars.
