The legacy version of my Minor Settlement Battle Remover mod, for use on the 2.1 patch.

Old Description:

The Minor Settlement Battle Remover mod completely removes ALL minor settlement battles from the game and replaces them with land battles, like in Warhammer 1 and 2. This includes port settlements, defensive battles and ogre camps. It works in both Realms of Chaos and Immortal Empires.

I don't really like getting rid of them, the maps are beautiful and have clearly had a lot of time, effort, money and passion put into them, but the effect they have on the game's balance and pacing means that they have to go. Also the whole hedge maze tower defence thing is kind of annoying like have you seen the minimap for some of them they looks like those mazes they give to kids to keep them occupied at restaurants.

Also includes a fix for a bug where some dark fortresses in Norsca used the placeholder map instead of siege maps.

How it works

So every part of the campaign map has an Area assigned to it by the developers. Areas have Battle Groups assigned to them, which contain Battle Maps, which are what you fight the battles on. When a battle takes place in an Area, it analyses the situation and calls up the appropriate Battle Group, for example when an ambush happens in the Cathay Desert Area, it calls up the Cathay Desert Ambush Battle Group, which gives you a Cathay Desert Ambush map.

Settlement Areas function the same way. When one is attacked the game checks a few things to determine what sort of map you get. If the settlement has walls it's a siege Battle Group, if it doesn't have walls it's a minor settlement Battle Group. This mod replaces all those assigned minor settlement Battle Groups with Land Battle Groups.

Those minor settlement Battle Groups contain only a single map each, while the Land Battle Groups have multiple maps, resulting in a major increase in map variety.

Limitations

It's not possible to assign new Areas without the Assembly Kit, and while the Warhammer 3 version has been released, I need time to figure it out.

Settlement Areas are applied to multiple settlements each and are scattered all over the place. Changing the Battle Group of one Area will affect all settlements that the Area is applied to. If I try to make a settlement in Naggaroth’s desert have a desert Battle Group, settlements up in the snow with Malekith will become desert maps too.

Interesting Things

Dwarf settlements are scattered all over the place so I made them all underway intercept battles. There are only 5 regular intercept maps, but there’s only 2 Dwarf minor settlement battle maps so that’s more than double the variety!

Skaven-owned settlements also get their underway maps. Any settlement owned by skaven will become a skaven map until they are evicted.

The Pox Marsh and The Galleon’s Graveyard share the same Area, so the Pox Marsh uses The Galleon's Graveyard's special map. Without this mod, The Galleon's Graveyard uses a regular minor settlement map, which is very boring.

The Oak of Ages has the same Area as all other Wood Elf settlements, rather than a unique one for its unique map.

If you don't like the maps you get when using this mod, you can use one of the other minor settlement battle remover mods alongside this one for a different selection, though results may vary.

I can't make it so some settlement building levels or defensive buildings give minor settlement Battle Maps back. That is beyond my modding knowledge.

This mod does not affect Ulthuan gates or Empire forts in any way.

Compatibility

The only incompatible mods are the ones that do this exact thing.

Save-game compatible, you can add and remove mid-campaign without issue.

Apparently works in multiplayer campaigns.

If it's not working, make sure you turned the mod on, new mods are disabled by default. You'd be surprised by how many people don't realise that.

This mod uses an old method from before 2.2 where instead of just turning minor settlements off I had to change what map gets loaded up. The method resulted in way less map variety and things like dwarf-themed settlements becoming underway maps.

I just made this one because someone requested it so they could finish their 2.1 patch game. I didn't put much thought into it.

Hey Stubby, any idea why you said we should only use this on 2.1?

In my testing this still works on current patch, and removes minor settlement maps, but not the AR bonus they have, which is why I'm using it now.
