R.E.N Arkon "Cylin" CF-1 Naval Fighter

The Arkon CF-1, nicknamed the “Cylinder” and later shortened to “Cylin”, was the first carrier-based fighter of the Erilian Navy. The type was initially flown as a land fighter, but after evaluation the type was considered for naval service with small modification.

History and Flight

The Aircraft was known by it’s pilots for it’s excellent stability in flight and it’s ability to speed away from other fighters of the era. In 1927 during a conflict with Hawell, the Cylin was deployed in large numbers and proved dominance over the early hawellian fighters. 10 years of service was celebrated for the Cylin during war with Segieria, where the type proved to be outdated yet still valuable to other nations.

Pilots who flew the Cylin were told to pitch up aggressively as the length of the propeller often lead to pilots scraping the prop tips on the runway, damaging the propeller and engine of the aircraft. They were often impressed with the maximum altitude of the aircraft, as it was generally limited by the pilot due to lack of a pressurized cockpit. The single stage supercharger of the Cylin allowed it to reach very high altitudes and produce large amounts of power from it’s relatively small engine for the time.
