Description
Ever wish that Forts and Citadels had some use beyond the defenseive bonus? That they were useful even when not at war, instead of taking up space that could be used for more useful tile improvements? Disappointed that your existing units have no way to gain XP other than through combat, while new units benefit from XP buildings like the Barracks?

Then this mod is for you.

This mod improves Forts and Citadels by giving them a unique tile yield, XP. A unit stationed in a Fort +1 XP per turn, units in Citadels will gain +2 XP. So if you have a unit that missed out on the free XP of the Barracks and Armory, you can station them on a Fort for a few turns for a little extra "training" and pick up a promotion or two.

The XP that can be gained via the Fort and Citadel is capped at 15 XP. This cap increases by 15 XP with the discovery of Steel, and agin with the discovery of Military Science. The XP cap can be further increased by adopting the "Total War" tenet of Autocracy, or by controlling the city with the Brandenburg Gate. The cap limits the XP that can be gained from forts to the maximum XP you could train a new unit with, given your tech level, policy choices, and wonders.

As with any other tile improvement, the Fort and Citadel must be worked by a citizen to take advantage of their yield. If you're trying to train a unit using a fort, make sure a citizen is working the tile in the Citizen Management screen of a nearby city.

On slower game speeds, Marathon and Epic, the added XP of the Fort and Citadel is applied every other turn rather than every turn to better match the slower pace.

No XP cap, 1gpt maintenance, fort doesn't need to be worked, yield increases to +2 with military science.

After a test with mods that play around with Forts and Citadels
Fortress Borders-Forts have borders and garrisoned units gain XP. Same for Citadels.
Aquatic Fortress- works as intended but doesn't grant XP

This mod still works! However, note that those using v2 must also use a civilian to work the fort/citadel to gain xp.
