The Soviet Union had acquired most of it's naval possessions from the previous Russian Empire government making the majority of it's ships in service from pre-war designs with a couple exceptions in the smaller classes of destroyers and submarines.

The Bogatyr Class is the oldest class of cruisers in the red fleet with the Komintern being the only survivor out of the 5 ships. Due to it's old age making it stand out against the majority of other light cruisers in service around the world in the 1930's and 1940's it makes it's modernisation priority very low however it did get a quick refit to make it somewhat useful for the Patriotic war.

The Yakov Sverdlov Class is the oldest class of destroyer in the Red Fleet consisting of a single produced ship completed in 1913. At the time of her completion in 1913 she was one of the fastest destroyers in the world which would come in handy when her modernisation during the 1920's-1930's made her a division leader. The Orfey class is the first class consisting of more than one ship to survive the chaos of WW1 and the Russian civil war however like all Russian ships from that period some of the class was lost during the chaos.
