Soviet Space Program's Vostok 3KA Spacecraft and Vostok-K Rocket

NOTES:
-This is designed to be spawned on the Oil Rig/Platform spawn zone

-Like a real Vostok Mission, the Cosmonaut will be ejected from the capsule before landing

-Due to the separation rockets used in staging, expect to take minor damage during the flight




"Poekhali!!" rings out over the radio as the boosters of the R7 roar to life. 9 minutes later Yuri Gagarin would become the first man in space and humanity would become a space-faring species. Now you can relive his historic flight with my Vostok 3KA replica.

LAUNCHING THE ROCKET:
To launch the Vostok you must first raise the rocket into launch position. Make your way to the Radio Command Truck to the left of the launch pad. There you will find a series of locked buttons. Press the first one labeled "Raise Rocket". This will begin the automated process of configuring the rocket for launch.


Once the rocket is raised the second button, "Fuel Rocket", will unlock. Press this button and the fuel trains will approach the rocket and cooling vapors will begin to radiate from the booster.


With the fueling now underway, it's time to dawn your spacesuit, it's on the wall behind you.


Once you are dressed for the flight, select which length of countdown you would prefer(5 minutes or 15) and start making your way towards the rocket.


NOTE: The access structures will start retracting prior to launch so you will have a limited amount of time to reach the spacecraft before it becomes inaccessible. (3 minutes for the 5 minute countdown & 5 minutes for the 15 minute countdown)


As you approach the rocket you will notice a small box mounted to a set of rails on the right side of the service mast in front of the rocket. This is the elevator, climb inside and press the button to start it on its way to the top of the rocket.


When the elevator has reached the top, make your way around to the right side of the rocket, there you will find an opening that will allow you to access the capsule's seat labeled "Crew Seat".


Once in your seat, just sit back and enjoy the ride. Like the real Vostok spacecraft, the cosmonaut has no actual control over the vehicle, with it instead simply following a preprogramed set of commands.


Near the end of your flight, your seat will be ejected from the capsule, THIS IS NORMAL! Please remain in your seat until you make contact with the water, then dismount to ensure you don't drown.

VEHICLE HISTORY:
In 1957 the R7, the world's first ICBM, launched Sputnik and started the Space Race. After Sputnik 2 flew the first living thing to venture into space, a dog named Laika, it became clear that the next milestone in the race for space superiority would be putting a man in orbit. Modifying the plans for a spy satellite already under development, chief designed Sergei Korolev designed the Vostok 3KA spacecraft.

To launch his new spacecraft, he added a powerful upper stage to the R7 ballistic missile. After a few test flights in 1960 and early 1961, it became clear that the Americans were close to launching Alan Shepard into space with their Mercury-Redstone rocket.

Unwilling to allow an American to hold the title of first man in space, the Soviets rushed to fly their first cosmonaut on a manned flight with a 50/50 chance of survival. On April 12, 1961 Yuri Gagarin blasted off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome to become the first man in space.

Vostok flew again later that year, propelling Gherman Titov into orbit aboard Vostok 2. He would become the first man to spend 24 hours in space. Vostok 3 & Vostok 4 would fly simultaneously in August of 1962, making Andriyan Nikolayev(Vostok 3) & Pavel Popovich(Vostok 4) the first 2 people to fly in space at the same time. In June of 1963 Vostok 5 would launch Valery Bykovsky into orbit. 2 days later he would be joined by Vostok 6 carrying Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman in space.

Vostok 6 was the last flight of the Vostok program, however the Voskhod spacecraft, which would fly in 1964 & 1965 was essentially a heavily modified Vostok spacecraft.
