Malus Darkblade Books Campaign Overhaul- Artefacts of Tz'arkan

Description
Malus Darkblade undertakes 8 lore friendly missions (reworking Nagash mechanic), including retrieving 5 powerful Artefacts of Tz'arkan, and other lore items as he cuts a bloody path through the Chaos Wastes and home of the Dark Elves to save his soul and conquer his Daemon.

Campaign Overhaul

Malus begins in the Northern Chaos wastes, as he seeks five powerful Artefacts which the Daemon Tz'arkan claims can free his soul and unbind their destinies. The campaign will encourage players to wage bloody war on Chaos fortresses and Champions to regain these Artefacts, as well as to attack major Dark Elf settlements to find the precious items.

As with the Malus Darkblade books/lore, the focus is on:

Artefacts
#1 The Octagon of Praan
Found the Northern Chaos Wastes, it is said to protect its wearer from all kinds of sorcery and magical wards.
Provides: 50% spell resistant for Malus, 5% for his armies and reduces Spell Cooldown by 15%

#2 The Idol of Kolkuth
Created by the sorcerer Eradorius and hidden within a deadly labyrinth in another dimension that held the ability to warp space and time.
Provides: 15% Army Movement Range, +50% Research, -10% spell cost reduction, and Vanguard Deployment

#3 The Dagger of Torxus
Hidden deep within Clar Karond's necropolis, the so called "Reaper of Souls" was capable of ripping out the soul of anyone it so much as scratched.
Provides: Enables Sundering attacks and increases Malus' Melee Attack & Defence by 20

#4 The Warpsword of Khaine
The true Warpsword was found within the Chaos Wastes, guarded by an ancient Dragon Ogre. The sword radiated invisible heat and infused the wielder with great strength... and an insatiable thirst for murder.
Provides: Regeneration through 'The Hunger', enables Flaming Attacks, Weapon Strength +35% and reduces province-wide corruption by 8

#5 The Amulet of Vaurog
A heavy, red-gold torque that rendered its wearer impervious to all weapons. Malus ventured north beyond Ghrond into the Chaos Wastes and was forced to face a deadly, but familiar, Chaos Champion.
Provides: Provides 20% Ward Save to Malus and 15% Missile Resistance and makes Armies Immune to Attrition

Bonus Lore Artefacts
Eldire Bane's Ring - A prize from Malus' witch mother which aided him in desperate times and helped provide critical insights.
Provides: Provides growth +50 to all provinces, reduces missile recruit cost by 25% and missile strength for Malus' army by 10%

The Vermillion Gate - After discovering the fake Warpsword within the Temple of Khaine at Har Ganeth, Malus used to Gate to find the true sword's location.
Causes Attrition to enemies in your territory, improves Diplomatic Relations +50 with Daemons and Dark Elves, and improves Lord Loyalty by 2

Ainur Tel, the Eye of Fate - An artefact from ancient Nagarythe that allows the user to see hundreds of miles, that is guarded by the Witch King, Malekith.
Increases Hero capacity by +3, Lord Recruit Rank by +5, and reduces Wound Recovery time by -2

The locations have been distributed in a way that should force the User to go to war with various powerful Chaos & Dark Elf factions (or confederations) to reclaim the very powerful artefacts.

Feedback/Todo/Issues

Whilst trying to be fairly lore accurate, I've taken a few creative liberties to try and make the gameplay more fun and challenging and spread the missions/artefacts out a bit more (rather than them all being crammed in top left corner as largely per lore).

By default, the Nagash mechanics randomise books/artefacts and locations. I had considered trying to fix this so the correct items appear as per lore, e.g. the Torxus dagger should be gained from Clar Karond. I may still seek to do this but the randomisation factor is intended by CA to improve replayability and introduce RNG and variety so I've published as is. Happy to take feedback and different ideas to improve or refine aspects.

Compatibility

Should be fairly safe, although I only recommend enabling this mod when playing as Malus Darkblade.

Ah sorry about that. Best way to track item locations is in the game itself, clicking the book icon at top UI to then show a map of items you have yet to unlock e.g. the one in Lothern or Naggarond. It also lets you know which reward has been randomised, so you can choose to target particular items.

Glad you're enjoying it :-)

Lol, the old screenshot was why I thought it was supposed to be in Zanbajian. Your list of the hardcoded regionns below makes sense and I apologize if I caused any confusion! Thanks again for this mod because Malus is one of my favorite characters from WH lore. Your mod really makes his campaigns fell full of flavor and really thematic.

Ah wait I can see an old screenshot on the above did actually have Plans of Zanbaijian but I think I had to move it after a conflict, whereas what I've shared below are the current 8 hardcoded regions.

I could look at moving one back to Zanbaijian if it was important to people.

Thank you for the screenshot. I don't think any of the books are supposed to happen in Zanbaijian anyway?

Here is the code below, the actual reward can be random (rotated among locations) as its a reskin of Nagash mechanics but I setup 3 separate campaigns then clicked the book icon in the top main UI and confirmed the following regions all had 'books'. They're almost all exclusively around or to the West of where Darkblade starts also (drawing you more towards other DE and the top-left/NW chaos wastes).

Was your game telling you that a book was in the Region? Not everything is perfectly placed within Book Lore either, I've tried to gamify it a bit to avoid annoyance and to make things fit within the Nagash mechanics.

Did a quick run with only this mod and took the Plains but no book, screenshot below. When you said the books are random, do you mean the settlement places for books are random as well? If so, disregard my post and thanks for keeping one of my favorite mods alive. It really pairs well with the Victory Conditions Overhaul mod.

It very well could be the tons of mods I'm using so I'll run a test as well with just this mod and report back.

Updated for 5.0.

Nagash mechanics are still random-ish with this mod so I think should still be OK King_Mandu. I did a quick test there and saw all the books appear. But I can make changes if there is an issue due to Tamurkhan.
King_Mandu 5 May @ 5:40pm
Mod still works with 5.0 except there is no book at Plains of Zanbaijin most likely due to Tamurkhan getting put there with the DLC. Regardless, I love this mod and it has been a pleasure seeing modders give more loreful love to Malus than CA ever did. Malus should have gotten Tamurkhan's chieftan mechanic with all his best buds.

Hey Oh_man, you could probably just publish your art as addon mod yourself and then you and others can use them together?
