I... I was never good at socializing... It's just so much easier to get to know someone after the fact... you know?

The Copycat is a 3rd party neutral killer role, who has access to The Copycat Files. The role of every corpse The Copycat investigates is transcribed in The Files. The Copycat can then use The Files to change their role to any of those that they have transcribed. However, they may only change roles every 30 seconds, and may not use the same role twice (aside from their original role). This latter restriction was added to prevent potential game breaking interactions wherein (for example) a Copycat abuses a revival role for infinite revivals (This restriction can be removed if you don't mind that).

The Copycat additionally starts with a single credit and may accrue more credits through murder. However, they have no shop to spend them on. They'll have to switch to a Traitor, Detective, or other shopping role to make use of their hard earned cash.

Naturally, this role works best on servers that have numerous roles installed... provided that those roles have accounted for the possibility of being on a non-default team.



Convars are variables that are introduced to allow server owners to customize the gameplay without changing the code. There are always a handful of convars automatically created by TTT2, that define the spawn parameters of this role and are found in ULX. Additionally there might be some role specific convars, which have to be set in the server config file.

Normal Role Convars (also found in ULX):
# enable or disable this role ttt_copycat_enabled [0/1] (default: 1) # the percentage of players that are spawned as this role ttt_copycat_pct [0.0..1.0] (default: 0.13) # the limit of players that spawn as this role each round, this overwrites the percentage ttt_copycat_max [0..n] (default: 1) # the probability each round of this role being spawned at all ttt_copycat_random [0..100] (default: 30) # the amount of players needed for this role to spawn ttt_copycat_min_players: [0..n] (default: 6)

Rolespecific Convars:
# Can the Copycat only switch to a given role once per game? Note1: If disabled, I can't guarrantee that this won't cause role abuse (ex. constantly swapping between revival roles for infinite lives) ttt2_copycat_once_per_role [0/1] (default: 1) # Is the Copycat's role change permanent? Note1: Takes priority over ttt2_copycat_once_per_role ttt2_copycat_permanent [0/1] (default: 0) # How many seconds must pass until The Copycat can change their role again? ttt2_copycat_role_change_cooldown [0..n] (default: 30) # Is the Copycat on The Doppelganger's Team? Note1: Even if this is enabled, The Copycat will be on their own team if the Doppelganger isn't installed. Note2: The server (and GMod if peer-to-peer) will need to be restarted in order for a change in this ConVar to take effect ttt2_copycat_on_dop_team [0/1] (default: 0)

@Malcry: Should be fixed now.

Bit depressing that it took ~1.5 years for this issue to get reported. I missed it because it only presented itself if the Petition weapon wasn't installed. I guess the Petition item is extremely popular?

@Kira: It sure is. I've added ttt2_copycat_permanent for you. Set it to 1 and the Copycat will be stuck with the role that they chose.

Is it possible to include a convar to cause the role swap to be permanent? I think it would fix all the complaints my players levy against amnesiac

@Hannes: Yeah I added that ConVar mostly because I'd thought it'd be cool if the Doppelganger and Copycat were on the same team. A team of role snatchers might lead to some fun interactions.

@pawel99uk: Honestly the color was a last minute decision. I have a couple other roles with similar colors (Beacon and Haunted). For the Copycat, I thought it would be more cool if the cat icon was black with a "pale reflection" so to speak.

really cool role all do the color of it makes the icons black witch is a bit weird to see but apart from that really fun may add to my co owned server

The role is very cool and i love how it's very unique!! Only one problem: It seems that the CopyCat is in the Doppelganger-Team upon being spawned in and also wins with the Doppelganger. End of the round: "The Doppelganger Wins"! I don't know why that is, but it would be cool to see a fix, if you have enough time on your hands^^.
