Amalgamation: Psion Specialization

Descriere
IMPORTANT NOTE (23/1/2023): If you're having issues with psi-amps not being equippable please use RustyDios' Psionic Implants mod and ensure 'bHideImplantsInArmoryUntilPsionics' is set to 'false' in 'XComGameData_WeaponData.ini' (this might become a hard requirement later on, but right now I can't research if this is absolutely necessary, or if there are other ways around the issue)

WHAT:
A secondary specialization for Amalgamation Classes focused around psionics.

WHY:
For those who want a little bit more psionics in their Amalgamation campaign but don't want the vanilla PsiOps, and don't want to use PExM either.

IS IT BALANCED:
Probably. Most of the perks used are also used in Rusty's Psionic mod, and I tried to keep the more powerful ones on later ranks.

DEETS:
- Squaddie gets Soulfire.
- Corporal and Sergeant pull from deck containing: Insanity, Psionic Atropy, and Phase Walk.
- Lieutenant and Captain pull from deck containing: Stasis, Inspire, and Soul Merge.
- Major and Colonel pull from deck containing: Solace, Void Rift, and Null Lance.
- Brigadier gets Domination.

THANKS:
To creators of all the perk packs I used and Amalgamation specializations that I referenced.

Ah gotcha, I was looking at the different ones in the games files, not the mod files. Appreciate it!

It'll be the "XComGameData_WeaponData.ini" that is in the mod's folder (so <steam directory>/steamapps/workshop/content/268500/2224463798). From what I can see it seems to be set to 'false' by default so you shouldn't even need to change anything, but I left that note in as a precaution.

I cannot find bHideImplantsInArmoryUntilPsionics in any of my XComGameData_WeaponData.ini. Is there something that needs to be done to make it appear or am I supposed to manually type it into one of the XComGameData_WeaponData.ini files? I downloaded the implants mod and ran the game once to make sure it added any files it needed too

Awesome, I was pretty sure the issue wasn't with your mod per se, it could even be mod load order. I'll grab Psionic Implants for the next run :) Thanks many.

Ahhh. I think I can see where the issue might lie, although I am unsure if it's vanilla behavior or something that came from the psi underlay mod.
See, my personal mod setup that I've been using when testing the specialization includes RustyDios' "[WOTC] Psionic Implants" which *explicitly* has a setting in it that handles if the psi amps/implants are hidden until Psionics get researched or not... and is set to "don't hide them" by default.
Since Implants mod is basically a newer, more configurable re-implementation of underlays I recommend you switch to that, it should let you sidestep the issue. Can't really test if this happens without underlays mod right now (quite likely it does though), and don't think I can do anything about it from the level of my mod so I'll just add a note about Implants to the description for now.

So this is interesting. Once I unlock Psionics through research the restriction disappears. I can equip and switch to psiamps or underlays on my Psions without issues. Is it supposed to be this way?

To be honest I have no clue. Just checked the workshop version files to be sure, and the line that defines psiamps as a viable secondary weapon looks fine... and tertiary specs shouldn't really mess with that either by my knowledge. Three things that come to mind that you could try: 1) Regenerating the ini files, that can sometimes fix strange errors (this *will* force you to re-set any options you changed, including mod options), 2) unsubbing, then re-subbing to both base amalgamation and this spec to make sure the mods files are downloaded properly, 3) starting a fresh save with *only* amalgamation and spec loaded (no other mod) to doublecheck if the issue happens then.

Explanation on how to regenerate ini files, in case you're not familiar with that: https://www.reddit.com/r/XCOM2/comments/azp2wv/mod_issue/ei9uuby/

I'm having an issue where the tertiary spec is blocking psions from equipping psiamp or psi underlay (ive tried with and without that mod). For example, I have an Infantry - Psion - Officer, but they don't even get the option to equip anything other than the arc pistol as a secondary. In other cases, the psion gets the amp/underlay initially but if you remove it, you can't re-equip it. I don't have a lot of mods, just some QoL and amalgamation, and some cosmetics. Any thoughts?

Thanks for the update and hope you have a good day!

Thanks for the head's up. Somewhere along the way the line for using the colored icon from Rusty's Psion (that I have set up for personal use) sneaked into folder I use for uploading here. Switched it back to normal PsiOp icon so it should be good now (unsub and resub back if Steam doesn't pick up the update automatically)
