As an experience player to Black desert online; it isn't a friendly mmo rpg to get for new people considering the narrative to the story is somewhat janky to follow through the name story though there has been approvements from the developers a bit overtime to help follow the Main story line but its a little rough side still. Don't forget the RNG mechanics of the Gear System but its best to watch a video to understand how that works which it might take time for new players.

As I beginner You should explore and take your time on. I think the better option well to my personal opinion is to try out the classes that you might be interested rather than try to follow the story. Though if you are a lore person than go for it, no one is stopping you but I think the narrative to the story isn't the best coming from the korean game which is to be expected. The goal is try to pick a class you will enjoy playing. Considering that you are gonna be customnizing, naming at the beginning before starting of your journey into the gameplay.

Once you've chosen a class that you will be planning to stick with, try to do the main story up to the 2nd town called Heidel as a center point. The reason I choose this city was mainly due to the main story, side quests, and maybe events occur once in a while. But for the most parts, it's the comfertable area to be in.

Then when you are finished settling in the town, head towards the nearest enemy zone at your level but make sure to have xp scroll active or think of asking a friend to help out and take the opportunity to boost you up quickly is an option to get into the game quickly so you can access more area towards from your level.

I'm not the best experience player out there but after reading this; this small detail can give you a quick start into the game. I hope it helps you out! Have fun out there!
