Shopping Street Signs

Shotengai (shopping streets) are a unique feature of Japanese cities. Local businesses, walkable areas, low prices, and friendly service, what's not to like? However, they are increasingly disappearing due to the accelerating pressures placed upon small retailers. This asset pack is a small tribute to them. Containing 3 different types of retro-style signs from real locations, they should fit shopping streets of any size.


Shintatemachi Shotengai: A classic small shopping street in Kanazawa, Ishikawa prefecture.

Arcade Meitengai: A high-traffic commercial area in Numazu, Shizuoka prefecture with an arcaded sidewalk. Formerly a prosperous shopping area, now one of Japan's many "shutter streets".

商店街は日本の都市の特徴である。地元の企業、歩きやすいエリア、低価格、フレンドリーなサービス、これほど好ましくないものはありません。しかし小規模な小売店への圧力が加速しているため、商店街はますます姿を消しつつあります。このアセットパックは商店街のささやかなオマージュである。昭和な看板を3種類である。どのような種類の商店街にも適するはずである。

None of these assets are very PO friendly; two of them will lose illumination textures and the third needs a custom alpha texture to display a new name.
