Endurance Class Frigate "Gray Wolf"

GHI is proud to announce the completion of the ”Gray Wolf”, the first frigate of the all-new Endurance Class!

Endurance class frigates (ECF) are sturdy, multi-purpose vessels with long-range capability, made for the exploration of distant worlds and operation far from home. To fulfill these tasks, the frigates feature two separate hangars, two large cargo containers and come equipped with 6 jump drives for a combined jump range of 3800 km. In space, ECF are propelled by Ion thrusters fueled by two large reactors, which also serve to power the two on-board refineries and assemblers.

Inside natural gravity, ECF rely on their hydrogen thrusters, fed by 6 large hydrogen tanks, connected to 21 H2/O2-generators. During “1g”-tests, the ”Gray Wolf” has managed to lift 40% of her own weight, or 1.600.000 kg, as additional cargo into space. Between 5-10% of her stored hydrogen were sufficient to perform this feat in economic flight. A potential hover duration of approx. 55 min was calculated.

In combat, Endurance Class Frigates hold true to their class’ name. With a length of 41 and width of 19 Blocks respectively, these frigates stretch their type-designation, already venturing into destroyer territory. This large size allows for an overall sturdy and resilient construction with redundant systems. The light armor hull – typical for frigates – is reinforced with heavy armor in key areas. To prevent magazine racking, all turrets feature an individual magazine, and all hydrogen tanks are protected in separated compartments.

Unlike destroyers, the ECF rely on a defensive armament employing 8 Gatling turrets, 8 Assault Cannon turrets, as well as 2 Artillery Cannons. Thus equipped, ECF are highly capable of defending themselves in short to medium range combat. Endurance Class vessels are designed to be close to axially symmetric, which allows for great maneuverability. Therefore the ECF follow a forward-firing approach. Consequently, even with limited firepower, the focused firepower of all guns can be brought to bear, creating situational superiority to rapidly supress attacking vessels.

This blueprint has been developed with armor and armament restrictions in mind. It’s not supposed to be a gunbrick and is not optimized for survival gameplay. The design goals were to achieve more (agility & combat-capability), with less (guns & armor), while keeping a nice look.
