Chilly is a versatile Jack-of-all-trades fighter with an emphasis on close to mid ranged offense. He sports powerful options for threatening close ranged space, while his low friction allows him to extend the range of those close ranged tools. He also sports some solid mid ranged tools with Ice Breath and Bair, making him a solid threat in neutral. However, due to his his general difficulty to directly stop moving on the ground without actively turning around and the generally high startup and endlag on most of his attacks, he’s a very committal character who can struggle with getting whiff punished. His recovery game is also fairly lacking, with a decent vertical recovery move that is incredibly easy to intercept due to lacking an upwards hitbox. Utilize his slippery movement and strong offensive tools to control the match!

Notable Attacks

Nattack (Jab/Nair) – Ice Breath
Chilly rears his head back before exhaling a stream of wavering frost in front of him. Jab is a fairly slow to start but large space covering attack that covers the mid ranged space with a flurry of large projectiles. Moving forward before performing the attack gives this flurry extra utility as a mid-ranged combo starter, able to chain into Dtilt or Fair depending on DI and the range at which you hit it. Do be wary about using it though, as while it can be useful for poking or putting up a barrier against opposing projectiles, the frost puffs are considered ordinary projectiles, meaning they loose to transcendent projectiles or anti-projectile options such as Rykenburn’s Ftilt.

Ftilt – Ice Ball
Chilly crouches down before summoning a ball of ice around him and bursting forward. A solid burst movement tool and anti-projectile option to help make your way in. Deals good damage and can potentially kill if landed early into its active frames, though it does loose kill power over its duration. The distance traveled during Ftilt is determined by your momentum prior to performing the attack, making it travel further if done while moving forward than it would when done from a stand-still.

Dtilt – FREEZER BLIZZARD
Chilly aggressively crouches down while forming an aura of frost that lasts until you release the button. This is functionally a shine, being a fast to start close range option which can be jump canceled on hit and launches opponents for potential followups. The move launches high at the start before getting weaker and getting less range the longer the move is active. It’s also extremely committal if you miss with it, making securing a hit with it key.

Utilt – Ice Wall
Chilly creates a wall of ice in front of himself that quickly shatters. This is his strongest kill option on the ground, acting as a very committal yet very strong kill move with solid vertical range. This move doesn’t carry his momentum as well as his other grounded tools, making its range a bit more specific than his other normal attacks.

Fair – Ice Sprinkle
Chilly rapidly spins diagonally while exhaling frosty breath. This is a two-hit attack that acts as a solid all-purpose close quarters aerial, being useful both as an air to air, combo extender, and off stage kill option. This attack becomes active quickly and has a ton of active frames, though it is worth mentioning that the hitboxes start behind and above him before reaching his front, making it much slower in practice to poke with. The high active time and high endlag also make it highly committal to whiff, so be wary about spamming it mindlessly.

Dair – Snowflake Crystal
Chilly huddles down before forming a large, spiked ice crystal around himself, stalling himself in place in the process. This is a slow, large spike that doubles as a method to mix up your momentum in the air. Can be used for some interesting combo extensions when done out of a full jump, so be sure to experiment with that.
