The Arkon Aerospace Swift is a early monoplane fighter interceptor developed by Arkon Aerospace, a part of Arkon manufacturing, for the Royal Erilian Air Force in the 1910’s. The aircraft was quickly rolled into service after diplomatic relations were souring with Segieria, where it played a vital role as a fighter interceptor against the Segerian bomber squadrons. It had several quirks, notably it’s tendency to bounce on landings and roll when taking off, but in the air, it handled well and was very agile.

The aircraft experimented with several novel features for the time, such as wing warping for aileron control and a machine gun that fired through the propeller arc. It’s extreme speed for the time but trouble with stalling in a rapid climb gained it the nickname “saluting wing” referring to the planes sudden loss in speed when pitching upwards in a dogfight. However, this was sometimes used successfully as an evasion technique, but could only be performed by experienced pilots. Naval versions were produced to be carried on early destroyers and some were even equipped with floats for water landings, but these variants only saw short service.

Operators Instructions:

TAKEOFF
1. Turn the magneto ON
2. Disengage the parking brakes (2)
3. Turn on the Landing/Taxi light (6)
4. Increase throttle to ~10% (Up/Down) and taxi onto the runway.
5. Apply the parking brakes (2) when in position
6. Disengage Brakes (2) and increase throttle (Up/Down) to 100%

NOTE: The aircraft has a tendency to roll on the runway, be aware of this if you want to avoid a wing to ground collision

FLIGHT
• Cruise is at 83.5% throttle. Enable the stabiliser at this speed for sustained untouched flight. Other speeds will
require trimming as the aircraft is trimmed for such speeds.
• The aircraft does not fare well when pulling up rapidly. Avoid doing this at low altitudes

COMBAT
The aircraft has a singular machine gun with a 50 round box attached on the top right of the engine cowling as
seen by the pilot. This can be fired at any time and does not have a safety for the trigger. You have been warned.
Spare ammunition (200 rounds) is inside the cockpit in front of the pilot’s chair, all containing armour piercing
rounds.

LANDING
1. Turn on the Landing/Taxi light (6)
2. Slow approach with throttle at ~70%
3. Ensure you watch altitude and speed as the aircraft can stall
4. When close to the runway, lower throttle gradually and wait to touch down
5. Lower throttle further and go below zero to engage the soft brakes. These will slow the aircraft without the need
for hard brakes

NOTE: The stabilizer can be used during decent and is recommended for new pilots as this will keep the plane level
and will allow it to descend slowly.

OTHER INFORMATION
• The refuelling port is situated behind the cooling radiator on the underside of the aircraft. This only accepts diesel
• The aircraft can be taxied by the player without power if the brakes are disengaged first
• Bullets may be seen to collide with the propeller. This is not an issue as the bullets pass straight through and do
not damage the aircraft.
• The backlights are useful for night fighting and night time operations, use them.
