Children of the Woods

Description
"Fear the forest."

Children of the Woods

Inspired by horror films, european pagan imagery, slavic folklore, as well as games like The Witcher 3, this mod adds 4 new units into the game, distributed across 2 factions - Wood Elves and Beastmen, with a special exception for Drycha who gets all of them since this mod was catered especially for her.

Celebrants

"Gustav, I've been hearing it again. The cacophonous chanting and laughter beyond the nearby shrubbery. I have been tormented by this noise for a fortnite, and I feel it's getting louder and louder near my farm; I have to go file a complaint to the ealdorman."

Celebrants are a ferocious band of revelers who prowl the forests of Athel Loren and beyond. It is unsure if they are of elven blood and their allegiance is a mystery even to their own woodland kin; what is certain is that their macabre festivities are a nightmare to witness.

These units are unbreakable and have frenzy, making them ideal for charging into the fray against the enemy's defensive battle lines. Their twisted yet graceful forms when gyrating wildly in the heat of battle can befuddle enemies and lower their chance to hit but their crude weapons, however, deal low AP damage so they will perform poorly against heavily armored units or monsters.

Varcolacs

On lonely woodlands and forsaken groves, travelers would whisper tales of howls that echo deep within the dark; such howls said to hint a pang of despair and rage.

Varcolacs are the unfortunate and cursed souls, whether through their own volition or not, that dwell in the most remote and abandoned corners of the deep wood; hoping that nature herself ends their misery. However, if prey is nearby, these hulking lycanthropes will immediately be taken over by their ravenous bloodlust and will not hesitate to brutally consume it.

Much like their northern Skinwolf counterparts, Varcolacs are an agile monstrous infantry unit best used to stalk and hunt unwary targets and destroying them in surprise. While Skinwolves specialize against large units, Varcolacs are more deadly against infantry. They are especially very effective ripping into the enemy's artillery and ranged units.

Ancient Leshii

"Leonne, my boy. Don't you find it a bit strange that there's been a lot of animals gathering around that tree stump lately? W-Wait...do you know where our goat went?"

Said to haunt Kislev's tundras and forests, the Leshii are malevolent woodland spirits who love to play tricks on humans, although the degrees of their mischievousness vary wildly from being relatively harmless to grisly fatal. Empowered with time and the elements, Ancient Leshii are told to be able to command even the beasts of the forest.

Ancient Leshii are sturdy spellcasters in wooden form, being able to cast flock of doom, the withering and also summon a unit of giant wolves to aid it in battle. In melee, they can also inflict poison with their attacks.

Wildwood Fiend

This accursed abomination, twisted by chaos and nature's own hatred, stalks the haunted, forbidden forest of Cythral. Its maddening gaze is said to turn most men insane.

The Wildwood Fiend is an engine of destruction, driven purely by pure chaotic instinct. Like a lot of twisted creatures of the forest during the corruption of Coeddil, such beasts like these were imprisoned in Cythral and are forever guarded by its wildwood wardens to ensure that they don't wreak havoc and spread their malign taint throughout Athel Loren.

Wildwood Fiends are such a damning creature that even its very presence can cause nearby units to kill themselves and lower their melee defense. It also possesses a demonic third eye that can cause units to rampage.

These monsters are best used against large infantry blocks to inflict massive burst damage as their poor health and weak stats make them poor fighters against other monsters or duelists in prolonged solo combat.

Recruitment

The units in this mod are spread between Wood Elves and Beastmen.

Wood Elves have access to Celebrants and Ancient Leshii, available to the following buildings:

Drycha on the other hand has access to all 4 units, through her special building chain.

Beastmen have access to Varcolacs and Wildwood Fiends, as seen below through their special Rewards of Dread horde recruitment:

I read some past comments here, and another player did in fact say that Drycha's Varcolacs animated properly. All the complaints were players who were recruiting Varcolacs as Beastmen.

So I am most likely correct. If you have RPFM, you can go to the folder I indicated and correct that 1 line yourself in 10 seconds.

Guys I think I figured out why the Varcolacs have no animation. Did you, like me, play Beastmen and then found that Varcolacs were T-posing?

I looked in the mod files. In the folder "culture to battle animations tables", the modder mistakenly didn't input a line for Beastmen's Varcolac ( hu8_skin_wolf ). However, he did do it correctly for Drycha's Varcolac.

I was just about to start a Drycha campaign anyways (which is why I revisited this mod to see if I could fix it). If her Varcolacs move, then I'm correct. Then all the mod needs is to fix 1 line entry.

Varcolacs had no animation, they were t-posing but dealt damage in contrast to the mention of a previous commenter. Besides that I love the mod, especially the Fiend and the Leshen. An update is appreciated.
