Lore

The Electro Motive Division F9 series was built for both freight and passenger use, part of one of the most successful locomotive family of the 20th century, also known as the cab units.

Huge changes in the way Americans traveled led to the demise of the Southern Belle in 1969; it also signaled the end of KCS diesels in Belle motif. Actually, KCS had discontinued painting freight cabs in the popular tri-color scheme in the early 1950s, as the focus at KCS (as with other railroads) had shifted from marketing to operating ratios and cost cutting measures. Economy was the norm; the classy locomotive attire once worn by the railroad's first generation motive power gave way to different single-color schemes with simplified trim.

Operation Manual

The handles for getting inside are located in the top right corners of the door frames.

Startup:

Open the control cabinet in the back of the cab. Toggle every breaker. Next, open the door on the right side of the locomotive and make your way behind the engine to the engine control stand. Toggle the "Fuel Pumps" key and the isolation key. After that, simply press the "PRIME MOVER START" button, wait until the engine primes, and then it'll startup.

To Get Moving:

"Prime Mover Throttle" Lever: controls the throttle of the engine.

"Reverser" Lever: Points towards the direction in which you want to move.

"Independent Brake" Lever: Applies brakes only to the locomotive.

"Automatic Brake" Lever: Applies brakes to the entire line of trains.

To begin moving, toggle the "Generator Field" flip switch on the left of the engineer's control stand. Pull the prime mover throttle up past 0.15. Next, push the reverse lever to 1 if you want to move forwards, or -1 if you want to move backwards. After that, slowly release the independent brakes and you should be on your way.

Switching Tracks:

Located on the ceiling of the cab is the signal switcher radio. To change any junction, input 440 into the keypad and press the track switch button next to it. The track switcher has a range of 1000 meters.

Controlling multiple trains using ESS (Engine slave systems)

This locomotive utilizes the latest standardized Engine Slave Systems 1.4, and is mostly compatible back to 1.0 in all regards but dynamic brakes and rolling stock brakes. In order to turn a locomotive into a slave, turn on the "Slave" key. Now the slave systems have been set to receive controls rather than send. It will also transmit the controls it receives over radio and connectors. Then select whether or not it is receiving from the front connector, rear connector, or radio signal (defaults to front). If it is receiving from radio, make sure the master unit and slave are both on the same frequency. If the locomotive is facing away from the master, make sure to invert direction.
