Description
Got problems with your wood?

This vanilla-friendly mod adds a few tools for tribal colonies to reduce their reliance on wood, and protect them against fire.

- Advanced water cooler: refueled by berries or agave, and lasts longer than the wood-based alternative.

- Jade cooler: built from wood and jade, this cooler exploits a strange reaction between jade and insect jelly to efficiently cool a room. This cooler can be used to chill (but not freeze) food.

- Water tank: built from cloth and wood, this functions as a weak tribal equivalent of the firefoam popper. When knocked over by a pawn, or when damaged by fire, this tank will collapse into water.

- Slow-burn torch: a torch that lasts significantly longer than its alternative, but provides less light and much less heat. Can be refueled with wood or cloth.

Hope you enjoy! Check out my other mods below, such as this Tribal equivalent of the Empire faction:

Updated to 1.5!

Also added Rubaboo from my Rubaboo mod , it fits well with this content, and compressed some of the textures so they're easier to see while placing buildings. Perhaps someday I'll even make a better thumbnail.

@Snuggl yeah, that's a good idea! I'll try implement and update this week

Love your mod in my tribal playthroughs! :) The water tanks could be improved in two ways though:

- Make them stuffable, so they can be built with fabrics other than cotton.

- When they explode, place a blueprint for a new one. It's tedious to keep track of them and rebuild them manually.

@El Check out the collections that include this mod! There's a big youtuber using it in his series

Question for you, lads. An extra 1,000 people subscribed to this mod at the end of May and I'm curious - how did you get here?

Hey all, I've released a new mod with a similar flavour to this one:
Ilk of the Old Gods , a tribal Empire analogue, with new titles, permits, blood sacrifice, and even hallucinogens!

@El I get the mechanics goals, and yeah, I like how DBH makes passive coolers use water instead. The rest is like, I understand the goal to use unused resources. My brain just goes "Huh"? at them. I'm not really complaining at you or asking you to change it. I don't know what would work better, tbh. :starite:

@vae_losh, should be fine to add mid-save!

@StarlightSovereign Sure - the gameplay goal was to reduce reliance on wood for tribal colonies, and give them more flexibility. I admit that the mechanics require some suspension of disbelief, but I'd argue that vanilla passive coolers do too: evaporative cooling doesn't actually consume logs of wood, but the moisture from berries might actually work. And who knows, maybe insect jelly really would react with jade endothermically!

I love the things this mod adds. I don't love the fact that passive coolers are fueled by ... berries? and agave? and that a freezer is fueled by insect jelly. My head just won't wrap around those, sadly.
