SimpleAttenuation 2.0 (Discontinued)

Description
This mod has been discontinued and it will be included in MK_medicalsystem (https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2848692297)
The current version included in there is version 3.0 which integrates new features.

SimpleAttenuation is a mod that aims to make the gameplay experience in Arma a little less painful in a literal manner

SimpleAttenuation will manage your sound effects and environment volumes according your equipment regarding head wear in any of the 3 sound profiles flavors:
  • Passive Noise suppression.
  • Passive Noise cancellation.
  • Active Noise cancellation.

This mod is designed to be performance friendly, no constant onEachFrame checking or while-looping

The system will launch at the very start of the mission and is persistent across the session, allowing to equip, un-equip or control the sounds to your heart's content.

No set-up required, NEAT!

Since engine wise there is no solution to adjust sound shaders on the fly, this simple mod just decides the sound volume and adjust it for you.

Works really great for missions that use sound as a primary focus (stealth, horror, thillers, tactical).

SimpleAttenuation will allow you to equip any of the compatible gear that include items from equipment pools from mods like and enjoy its benefits:
  • Vanilla
  • Tryk
  • Age
  • RHS
Naming conventions and what goes in what slot is not standardized in between mods, SimpleAttenuation will look in the NVG, Helmet and Facewear slot in order to determine the sound profile of your equipment.

Current compatible items include:
  • Shemags (Facewears)
  • Bandanas (Facewears)
  • Headsets (Facewears)
  • Balaclavas (Facewears)
  • Goggles w/ earpieces (Facewears)
  • Helmets that cover ears (Headgear)
  • Helmets w/ earpieces (Headgear)
  • Caps w/ earpieces (Headgear)
  • Beanies w/ earpieces (Headgear)
  • Headsets (Headgear)
  • Headsets (NVGs)
The list is just too long to presicely describe the classnames and item list, generally speaking anything that could look like it would offer some sort of sound muffling might be included.

Once a compatible item is equipped, the system will evaluate what type of sound profile to use, selecting one of the following three and apply it's effects:

Passive profiles
  • Noise Suppresion Effects (Passive) - 30% Noise reduction + 50% Ambient sound reduction.
  • Noise Cancellation Effects (Passive) - 65% Noise reduction + 85% Ambient sound reduction.
Anything that might be considered a mechanical barrier or sound muffler will fall under this category, specially if the equipment covers the ears.

Active profiles
    Active Noise Cancellation Effects -
  • Passive state:
    35% Noise reduction + 65% Noise Reduction

  • Active state:
From 5% up to 100% Noise reduction + From 5% up to 100% Ambient sound reduction
Any type of equipment that might have volume control, sound equalizers or selective sound isolation systems will fall under this category.

Note:

In order to visualize debug messages to check for compatible headsets use this while in the mission:

missionNamespace setVariable ["SimpleAttenuation_debug",true];

Controls

The system can be controlled either by using the default configurations or by modifying the key combinations in the controls menu.

Please be aware, that in order to control the SimpleAttenuation system, an active profile must be enabled.

Note: All the keybinds by default use the top row number keys.

Default keybinds:
  • Control+6: Reduce ambient sounds.
  • Control+7: Increase ambient sounds.
  • Control+8: Reduce general sounds.
  • Control+9: Increase general sounds.
  • H: Enable/Disable active profile if available.

If you want me to include any other classnames into the system from popular mods like cup let me know your recommendation for any of the 3 available sound profiles.

Did I mention this system is natively integrated in our Escape From Tarkov based mission? No? Well, it is and in case you are interested you can find it here:
Tarkov mission available in the workshop

Hopefully, if you like this mod you can leave a thumbs up and a fav. Same for our mission.

Hope you guys have a great one using this, as much as we enjoy using it.

Compatibility

Earplug-type objects or other systems that modify the sounds, like the ones in ACE3 can conflict with this mod. When using those kind of mods, try to avoid mixing the sound systems by disabling them in the case they are modular.
Mods like JSRS and Dynasound should have no issue at all.

This is a client sided mod, you should have no issues when loading into a server with it. It's signed just in case tho!

Permissions
