AYA Class Corvette (IY 1)

"Hit them where it hurts, aim straight and fight with fire. For f***’s sake don’t expose your sides" - Fleet Admiral Fujiki Arata



The Aya Class Corvette was developed while the Inari state was still a colony of Earth. Its development came in response to a rising pirate threat, resultant of Earth’s central fleets weakening from internal corruption and a rotting command chain. Introduced into service in Standard Calendar (SC) year 527, four years before the founding of the Inari Empire, the Aya Class would barely manage to repel invasions from various pirate nations. Despite taking heavy losses, the Aya Class would become a crux for the morale of all citizens of what would become the Inari Empire in that turbulent time.

The Aya Class’ introduction and the invasions Inari faced would give opportunity to one man; Fujiki Arata, a fleet admiral of the Inari Colonial Defence Force. Ambitious and tactically gifted, Fujiki would play to the strengths of the Aya Class in his engagements with pirates, winning countless battles while other fleets were marred with defeats and pyrrhic victories. In an engagement in late SC 528, Fujiki would be gravely injured while leading from the front, losing his executive officer as well as his left arm when his corvette was struck directly by a pirate warship.

Though his arm was replaced with a prosthetic, Fujiki would not be able to enter combat again. He instead retired from the military and entered politics, quickly gaining popularity as the defender of Inari. In SC 531, after obtaining the highest positions of colonial power, Fujiki Arata would officially cede from the Earth sphere of influence, and would write the legislation converting Inari into an autocracy with him ascending to be its first emperor.

Upon the formation of the Inari Empire, the Aya Class would become the backbone of its initial fleets, and would be repainted in official Inari colours. Combined with The First Emperor of Inari’s reforms to its military, it would also become a powerful force in the defence of the Empire, though it would become obsolete within a decade as gravity manipulation technology became compact and cheap enough to mount to individual warships.


The Aya Class Corvette is designed primarily for space use, with an interior suited for zero-G use but also usable vertically in gravity wells. Gravity generation components in the early days of the Inari Empire were too large and expensive for mounting on warships, so the interior layout is far different to ships in the current era. FTL jumps were only possible when attached to a far larger transport vessel, so transporting a fleet quickly was an arduous and vulnerable process.

Unlike the majority of modern Inari warships, however, the Aya Class is designed to easily descend into planet atmosphere. This allows for operational flexibility, and ease of use on frontiers where space-based logistics is either weaker or vulnerable to enemy attack.

Capable of housing a crew of 2 on extended (but cramped) deployments and bringing to bear a strong frontal barrage and reasonable frontal armouring, the Aya Class Corvette was a competent ship that rose to the challenge of its time and held the hopes of a nation on its back.
