Description
Rin Kaenbyou the Stage 5 boss of Touhou 11 Subterranean Animism enters Rivals of Aether. Rin is an extremely high APM mobile rushdown who boasts a heavy powerful punish game through a plethora of cancels but can struggle to get in due to limited range, a large idle hurtbox and no anti projectile options.


Nspecial: Summon Wisp. Nspecial performs a melee attack like a force palm and fires a projectile that summons a wisp when it hits a player or lifetime expires. Using Nspecial while the wisp is on the field will make it explode.

Uspecial: Teleport. This move works somewhat like Palutena Teleport in smash where you can ledge cancel the move, but Rin can also use an aerial immediately after teleporting at the cost of increased prat land time.

Dspecial: Float Shine. This move floats Rin and allows an omnidirectional fly for a brief period at once per airtime, however the move jump cancels on hit, if Rin lands fspecial or the close hit of nspecial she gains a stack that allows her to cancel any move into down special on hit.

Fspecial: Fspecial is an angleable mobility tool that cancels into a bounce on hit. This move is extremely high reward but very dangerous on whiff.

Gimmick: Wisp. Rin has a wall cling and can cling to the wisp by holding the special button out of Fspecial or wall jumping onto the wisp. While clinging to the wisp she can ride it, if she rides it for the full durration she will perform a special attack that is a very strong version of Zetterburn uspecial. She and opponents can also hit the wisp to make it detonate with the properties of the hitbox that hit it extending the range of moves used on it.

There's a lot of options with attack cancels into dspecial, dspecial jump cancels and can be canceled into out of jump squat, fspecial hit cancels, wall jump cancels off wisp, and uspecial cancels into aerials to extend strings and push punishes.

Ok so first off, one of the best workshop characters in general, amazing job to the both of you. Secondly, when I saw the in between frame of the crouch was like, "I bet this person could make a really good neco-arc character in this sprite style", and I feel like neco-arc deserves better than a sprite rip lol. And lastly, I now realize how fire a neco-arc skin would be for this character.

U may not remember me, but I am the person who talked to you in the Touhou Lostword servers art channel when you appeared. Still Very sorry to hear that u experienced hate from people towards your characters. I just hope you're alright.

I've been given permission to make a patch for Rin. I've been personally very dissatisfied with her current state for well over a year but I have a tendency to want to over nerf things I don't like. This update's goal is to lower the power level of the character across the board and make her feel less frustrating to fight.

I tried to be fairly light with the changes I think the character needs. My initial approach to this update was to remove the cancel mechanic from the character entirely but I understand that doing so would alienate players who've become accustomed to the mechanic over the last year and a half. I tried to find a middle ground where the mechanic could remain on the character in some capacity without being as overwhelming as it was before.

This patch may not do enough to tone down the power level of the character so feel free to contact me if you think I missed something. I'm not really connected to workshop communities anymore so I don't know if my changes actually addressed the problems people have with the character. I just tried to fix my issues by reducing access to her cancel mechanic and nerfing her mobility a fair amount. I'd like to nerf the character a bit more but I'm not super sure how much she needs and am playing it safe for now.

I just gotta ask if y'all are open to balance feedback about this character. They're really cool, but some of their bs is just so goofy that I can't really stand fighting it even with some of the "stronger" characters I play.

This is easily my favorite character to play as when wanting to play somewhat seriously. Really love the color choices too
