”The world has changed in the past 20 years you were gone, Commander.

‘How much,’ you ask? I think it’s best to see for yourself…”

– Central Officer Bradford

DESCRIPTION
---------------------------------

Commanders of XCOM, I give you another new mod: Aero’s Shells. This mod was in the works for a long time. And along the way, I gained new experience in this side of modding so I am happy to show you all what I did!

This mod adds in detail:

  • 23 SHELL MAPS (AS OF V1.01)!
  • Some shells actually have the Character Pool NOT in the Armory but on the map!
  • A few shells have custom songs in there! Don’t worry it’ll revert back to XCOM’s soundtrack once you are in Tactical/Strategy.
  • Multiple troops can be in there, rather than just one!
  • Customizable settings – you can enable/disable certain maps to your heart’s content!
  • Some custom animations made by yours truly (you can figure it out – they look like garbage lol)

KNOWN ISSUES
Since this is my first time dealing with map modding, please bear with me – apologies in advance!
----------------

* For those that do NOT like custom music, unfortunately there is no way to disable it (unless you turn off the in-game music in the settings). An update will come out eventually to enable/disable custom music but I’ll leave it for now.

* Speaking of custom music, a couple of tracks do not loop properly. I am not an audio expert sorry.

* More troops in the shell = more likely one of your soldiers will be squids (remember that bug? LOL). Please remember to install Mushashi’s “Squid Be Gone!” mod (NOTE: Please check with the mod author of the armor the squid is wearing in question and pester them to fix it).

* Some animations can look a little off and jittery. Just uh bear with it – I am still new in this animation business LOL.

* These shells do NOT have compatibility with custom alien races (I know some of you use Allies Unknown) due to some custom animations. No I will not update it to make them compatible. Ask the mod author to make it compatible.

Thanks! Enjoy! Feedback is welcome (good and/or bad)! And don't forget to give it a thumbs-up!

FAQ TIME:

Q1 PART I) What are shells?

Just another fancy word for "main menus". They are technically maps that show when you first boot up the game and see your favorite trooper in there. This mod expands more shells in your game.

It's also another bunch of lovely objects that are usually found on the beach. Neat stuff, you know?

Q1 PART II) WHY IS THIS MOD SO BIG?!

I may have added some props that are not from this game. Also AnimSets are chunky. And trust me, this mod is COOKED. Can you image how big it is UNCOOKED?

It’s 2.2 GB LOL

Q2) Can you port to Vanilla XCOM 2?

Nope. I am NOT going to port anymore mods to Vanilla. It's a pain to convert it to Vanilla (even switching it back to it when I have mods for WotC is troubling enough for me).

If you want to do it then by all means go for it. Don't forget to give credit for the original mod.

Q3) Donations?

Aero don’t need money for travelling the world.

Q4) What does "This shell features multiple shots?"

A new feature from my NieR:Shells has been implemented here! Basically if you wait in the shell long enough, your screen will transition to a new area within the map. So why not wait a bit? You might see your favorite troops doing other things in the map!

Q5) I installed Musashi's "Squid-Be-Gone" mod and I still see squids. Why???

That's beyond me. To quote Musashi exactly:
"To be completely honest with you: i don't know. The feedback of the testers suggests that it greatly reduces the occurences of tentacles but some testers reported they had some rare squids despite the mod, so there is probably another undiscovered reason that turns xcom soldiers into spaghetti monsters."

Q6) I got a Reaper with the capsule room thing every single time. Why?

The shell is not loaded and reverts to default. You need to do one of three things:
1. Subscribe to RustyDio's "Shell Swapper" to swap other shells at your own will.
2. If you have an existing campaign, load it up. Also ensure you got sq_paradox's "Remove Missing Mods for WotC". Then once loaded, pause the game, go to save menu, and press the "Unbind Missing Mods".
3. Start a new campaign and save once you got your troops

Got anymore questions? Put in the comments below if you wish. Anyways, ENJOY THE MOD GUYS!

Wow. Booted up the game for the first time with this installed, and got the little girl clutching her bunny. Damn, really great stuff.

? This mod doesn't affect your saves - it affects the start menu before you even play (the shell)

I have to Start New Game or I can play withmy Current Save with this mod?

God, yeah. I just saw the Terror_Alleyway one and it's haunting

What I wouldn't give for this to be compatible with MMS. The shell with the little girl and the Chrysalid casting a shadow is BRUTAL, but such a good "remember what these bastards took from us" resistance vibe

How do I remove them?
HKR31 27 Jul @ 3:46am
I deactivated all the vanilla shells and dlc shells but the viper nest and shens last gift still show up
henrykhaung 26 Jun @ 1:53am
