Predators are pretty straightforward, they run and hit their prey until it's dead and eat it. This mod tries to give them a more interesting behavior, a hunt that consists of multiple steps like: stalking, hauling, chewing while alive.
Also, this mod adds a new animal, the Titanboa, that can swallow animals or pawns, read further to know more about it!

Known issues
[1] The most important thing you must know is that this mod isn't perfect. There are instances where predators or the Titanboa might behave weirdly, although this happens rarely and doesn't break anything, mainly because of downed preys.

[2] There is around a 1 in 20 chance of the Titanboa Quest of failing, the titanboa just doesn't spawn. This happens veeeery rarely. But just in case, save your game before entering the quest map.

[3] Sometimes, if a pawn gets downed while being attacked by the Titanboa, the titanboa will still perform its swallowing animation despite it shouldn't and won't swallow the downed pawn. It's too troublesome to fix and since it doesn't cause any real trouble I left it like that.

[4] Predators stand on top of their prey when eating them alive instead of doing so *in front* of them as they usually do (see the gif), while this is not really intended, it doesn't cause any trouble either.

Despite these things, it is fully playable.

Predator's details
  • The way a predator prevents their prey from dying despite attacking it, is by adding a hidden temporary coagulator hediff to that prey, so it will endure and live a bit longer. (I tried to force the predator to only target its legs, but it was quite difficult, so this is some alternative)
  • Predators chew limbs first, if there are no limbs left, it will choose the neck which will cause the prey's death.
  • Predators attacking colonists alert has been disabled, I will add a toggleable option for this pretty soon.

Titanboa's details
  • The Titanboa can't swallow downed pawns/animals. This is due to how VEF is coded. Not in my power to fix/change :P
  • It can't swallow Thrumbos or any animal larger than a bodySize of 4.
  • The Titanboa's swallow animation gets canceled if it is being attacked, this is so you can't take advantage of that long period of vulnerability. Note that even tho it is canceled, it still swallowed its prey.
  • Not every time it will flee outside the map, only if it recently swallowed 3 colonists. If it manages to only swallow two or one, it will stay on map.
  • Has a ton of sharp armor (and health), but not blunt armor, use guns!



Incompatible with Giddy-up.
Pretty much incompatible with any mod that patches predator hunting for vanilla animals. If the mod has specific predator hunting behavior for a modded animal, it may still work (not tested tho).

A: Yes

Q: Can I remove it midsave?
A: Unless you *casually* have the titanboa's quest ON, it shouldn't break anything, tho I don't recommend it!

Q: Is the Titanboa tameable?
A: Not at the moment

Q: What if I don't want the Titanboa?
A: You can disable it either with Owlchemist's Cherry Picker Mod, or following the steps above!

Q: CE?
A: Yes.

I had a lot of fun with this mod in 1.4, but sadly it doesn't seem to work as-is in 1.5 anymore.
When used in 1.5 all animals will stop hunting altogether, so I think it needs an update.

I'm confused on the CE patch, description says "not yet" but the trello board has it under "Done"

Do you have any plans to do any new updates? I'd like to see wild predators (e.g. wolves) form groups and hunt in packs...
