Description

One person's junk is another person's scrap.
What do?

  • Deconstruct ancient debris for pieces of rusty scrap.
  • Research an industrial-tech method of isolating metals at the molecular level and extract them from the scrap at the smelter. The process is slower and less efficient than smelting pure slag. However, ancient scrap may yield any of the various metals at random.

    What's more?!?
  • Move and use the storage structures left behind by the Ancients.
  • Hoard their rusty old beds and use their surgery tables for emergency organ removal.
  • Find some razor wire laying around...Use it to harm and slow down intruders.Caution: May cause injury to wildlife or clumsy colonists
  • Or build new and stronger razor wire defenses with all that new steel you just extracted.
  • Like those cement fences you see? Build them and keep your livestock safe.
  • Storage units fully compatible with LWM's Deep Storage. And boy can you fit a lot in those Ancient Containers.
  • Also works with Vanilla storage if LWM-DS is not loaded.

You have questions?
  1. Aren't there other mods that already do this? Yes, and no. First of all I started working on this mod before I was aware of the other mods. It was requested by several players who use the Ancient Structures(continued) mod.

Second, While there is some crossover, I believe my approach is different enough that they are not the same.

Additionally, I have made sure they will all work together nicely and the overlap will not be redundant while still merging together the differences.
    Everyone Happy!

Fifteenth, I didn't really compare the others but I took care to make sure that this mod is still very balanced with respect to Vanilla style.

Aaaaand, one more....Unlike one of the other mods (I'm not going to point fingers and shame but maybe someone could gently nudge them over to the light side...) I don't use def overwrites, meaning there's less chance of incompatibilities.

  2. Did I patch Vanilla Faction - Ancients? No. I took a look and it seems their "junk" already gives resources when deconstructed. So, I didn't see the need to add more or replace them. Although I haven't actually played with the mod. So, if you have opinions otherwise, feel free to share them.

  3. Will I patch for other mods? Probably. Just ask below or come to my Discord channel.

¹Bill Door's makes all junk that is not huge movable. Scrap Collector only makes the useful items movable.
²Scrap Collector will override deconstruct drops. WJ uses def overwrites. SC uses patching. Not recommended to use together because of redundancy but won't cause issues.
³Razor wire from BAR does not function as defense. Nor can you drag to place blueprints. Razor wire from SC will cause dmg to pawns walking over it.
⁴Ancient junk will drop both types of scrap.
⁵Scrap Collector will override most deconstruct drops.
⁶Completely compatible. Will drop additional loot from some items in addition to ancient scrap.
NOTE All mods can be used together safely regardless of overlapping content.

WARNING:
Adding this mod along with LWM DeepStorage to an ongoing save file will cause issues with any Ancient Storage Buildings already on the map. It is NOT reccomended to add this mod to a save that currently also uses LWM Deep Storage. Alternatively, you can use DevMode->Destroy on all Ancient Storage Buildings first, save, then add Scrap Collector. You can then re-add them if you wish and they should function properly. I have contacted LWM about this and will explore solutions if there are any.

Make sure it updated properly. Unsub/resub if you need to.

For some reason, your mod comes up as using the wrong version of rimworld on Rimpy. I'll try and activate it in game and see if its just an issue with rimpy.

I don't think that's it. Double check with the current update and see if it's still an issue. If it is, send me your game log

@velcroboy333 Many thanks for looking into this! I suspect it's probably Ancient Junk Loot, as it changes the deconstruction of junk to yield additional items and usually get's auto sorted right after this mod.

Updated for 1.5. No changes made. Let me know if any bugs pop up.
Cheers.

On the bright side I don't think I've had any issues using this in 1.5 so far. Another mod I have changes the recipe for deconstructing ancient barb wire fences that I can't build the rusty ones anymore, but I've had that issue since 1.4 and never bothered trying to remedy it lol.

Thanks. I'm doing ok. I'm away for a couple weeks and changing jobs so, it'll be a minute until I get back to updating mods. But this one is high priority for me. So, it will get done when I have the time again.
