Historical Tweaks

This mod makes a variety of small changes to the game to include additional historical events that are not portrayed in the vanilla game, as well as some quality-of-life fixes centered around reducing border gore following peace conferences, all while preserving a vanilla+ game experience.

• Adds the Ecuadorian-Peruvian War.
  
• Adds events centered on the wartime occupation of Iceland and Greenland. Iceland is present from the start of the game as a dominion of Denmark, with special rules to prevent it from entering WWII as part of the Allies.
  
• Adds an event chain leading to Indonesian independence.
  
• Belgium has an alliance with France in 1936, which is broken after the remilitarization of the Rhineland. The alliance can be preserved by a Belgium player, or by chance if historical focuses are turned off.
  
• Adds historically accurate fortifications for France, Belgium, and Germany in the 1936 and 1939 starting scenarios. The French ai will send divisions to defend Belgium, making an invasion through the western part of Belgium more costly. (The Ardennes beckons!)
  
• Revises the Hungarian focus tree to give more plausible cores and claims, and causes Hungary to have elections if it takes the democratic focus path.
  
• Dynamically reverts ownership of recaptured Vichy French colonies to Free France, making for a tidier peace conference.
  
• Makes various small changes to reduce border gore and create more historical borders following major peace conferences.
  
• Reverts control of various occupied states (e.g. states transferred by “Destroyers for Bases”) at the end of WWII.
  
• Changes various political party names and alternate country names.
  
• Dynamically reverts CZE to being Czechoslovakia instead of the Czech Republic if it regains ownership of Slovakia.

This mod is likely to be incompatible with any mod that makes changes to:

• History files for French, German, Belgian, and Peruvian states
  
• Country history files for France, Belgium, Costa Rica, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Iceland, the Dutch East Indies, Ireland, British Malaya, and Siam
  
• American or Danish vanilla events
  
• Order of battle files for Peru, Ecuador, and Iceland
  
• Danish character files
  
• British vanilla decision files
  
• Hungary’s vanilla national focus tree
  
• French or Belgian vanilla ai strategy files

Special thanks to The Iron Workshop for their excellent YouTube series of HOI4 modding tutorials. The Iron Workshop’s content made the process of modding HOI4 far less intimidating, and made the prospect of writing my first mod seem obtainable for the first time in my gaming career.
