About Rivoli Ballroom

The Rivoli Ballroom was originally constructed as the Crofton Park Picture Palace in 1913 in London England. A renovation in the late 1920's put forward an Art Deco front elevation. By the 1950s the cinema was converted to a dance hall. Today it is the only intact 1950's era ballroom in London. The venue is often used as a film location and hosts dance and musical events. In the 1980s a music video for "I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues" by Elton John featured the Rivoli Ballroom prominently.

The name Rivoli has Italian origins. But overall the backstory of the building is not as directly Italian than others I have put in my Little Italy collection. However the architecture and the dance hall use do fit well with the vibe I am going for with the collection.

About the Building

This building asset has a color map. Parts of the stucco can be painted for a two-tone paint scheme. I recommend using this building as a Wall-to-Wall asset mid block as the rear and side of the building have blank brick walls. This is realistic as the main dance hall area would not have any windows.

Background on Little Italy collection

This dance hall is an entertainment anchor my for my Little Italy collection. The collection focuses on independent Italian American businesses with appealing vintage signage that have endured for decades in places like NYC, Philly, Detroit, St Louis, SF, etc.. Expect to see pasta shops, cheese shops, cafes, bakeries, butchers and much more.
