Radiant Robotic Limbs Expansion

Description

This mod overhauls the prosthetics field in multiple manners. Firstly by adding the precious missing container to store and auto-haul the nice stuff you find or craft, secondly by enhancing all prosthetics icons in the sake of clarity, then finally by adding a whole new batch of prosthetics [Six pairs of L&R, 3 arms / 3 legs]. Those ones, only accessible through crafting, still won't beat the best values in games (for instance best HPs for KLR, best stealth for stealth, best athletics for scout, etc.) but rather cleverly gather hybrid bonus while also trying to have the least downsides as possible (for exemple keeping your swimming performances intact, thing that frustrated me for a long time). To acquire them you will have to pass through more techs, with possibly heavy prices and longer crafting time.

[To check which limb is right or left, If you prefer icons with colored corners instead of mirrored limbs icons, unpack the new alternative folder in Icons in the mod repertory.]

I made this mod because what's on the workshop never fully satisfied me. I had for a long time Jewy's Limbs Overhaul which was quite good but let's be honest a bit unbalanced and missing a few stuff (but still hat down for this guy for the inspiration). So let's see how I did this mod !
  • Implementation of a Container for your Prosthetic Limbs : has a nice 20x30 inventory (roughly 3 lines of prosthetics per crate, because you'll make quite a lot of them to reach masterworks quality pieces). Rather expensive to build but worth it. Also everything for crafting auto-hauling has been considered and you can be sure your stuff will always land in there. The crate also has a unique texture inspired from another vanilla machina asset.

  • Rework of all vanilla prosthetic icons : Focusing the clarity and being able to spot the right piece you are looking for in a second. Left and Right of a same model won't have a different icon anymore (which was messed up to be honest) but then the left and right deal will be visible in the upper left corner of the sprite with a BLUE arrow for LEFT limbs and YELLOW arrow for RIGHT ones ! Here I prefered a discreet remote marking rather than a whole color layer that ruins the mood. That means the model in the icon will now always stay the same for a particular kind of prosthetic.

  • 3 new sets or arms, 3 new sets of legs : New prosthetics only available through crafting and of course after conducting the right researchs (be reassured, to get masterwork pieces, having a character @80+ robotics is relatively easy compared to armour and weapon smithing). Although those techs are expensive, inter-dependant and it takes quite some time to craft a piece but they will be worth your time and curiosity. I obviously created this whole mod mainly for those new babies, because before anything I wanted (balanced) endgame robotic limbs with less maluses than those offered by the game, may be with less strong bonuses if that's what it takes … Ya' know, I really wanted some of my char to be able to swim decently again dammit ! So like I said in the description I tried to find new sweet spots between the different vanilla's philosophies, while never topping the best of them in their ace field, but rather offering different good endgame all-round solutions for your classes. Final point and not the least, they have new textures (but have vanilla's meshes).

  • Steady Arm and Thief's Arm prosthetics both become craftable through new researchs : Self-explanatory.

  • Few vanilla prosthetics metal color tones have been altered : To prevent from mistaking them (for exemple KLR and Skeleton legs were the same model and texture), don't worry I did nothing crazy, ugly or off-chart. Just little shade here and different color/saturation here, it stays coherent to the game's mood and philosophy.

  • Getting the chance to make them earlier : Finally, in each of my playthrough I feel like I had access to this fun part of the game a little too late to be pleasurable. By the time I'm able to craft Masterwork KLR's (requiring a lot of AI cores), I almost have beaten everything on the map. Since I added more researches, I chose to spread in a better way the required AI cores (2 down to 1) and changed the availability tier of a few of the limbs. My new sets will found their place in Tier 6, the vanilla tier 6 is moving to Tier 5, and the Tier 4 (economy) will stay at 4.

Now read me well, I'm perfectly happy with how the mod is right now. I created this public version not so long ago but tested and balanced the stuff with friends for the 5 past months on 2 full games. So please, don't ask me to buff that because it's not powerful enough, or nerf this because it's too powerful. It's not both cases, yes I can beat slightly more powerful enemies with masterwork nice limbs array, and yes still get my ass kicked by tough enemies or submerged by medium enemies if I get cocky : so it looks perfect to me !

You can find all my mods by searching "Radiant" in steam workshop, nexus, or civfanatics, which is a recurrent word in all my mod's tittles.

Even if they represent hundreds of working hours, I'm sharing my mods for free like most of mod creators. But deep down I'm really hoping you to do that little extra thing that would help me a lot : joining any of my pages (patreon, facebook, instagram). Just that really! Don't feel obliged to give something, with Patreon there is indeed a free option that grants you basic news/content and it will only take few seconds of your time. That being said I'm an artist irl and I sometimes struggle to put my personal projects on the saddle. By giving a little something or joining my ranks you can trigger a course of actions/reactions that might end up gathering more people around, thus helping me building the motivation and means to create more stuff to appreciate.

Is the "Wraith leg" supposed to be so underpowered?

@Shirohô. There's a small issue. All prosthetics arm have their icon swapped with their counterpart.

the one called "normal icons" is called "alternate icons" when extracted
I think this is somehow also making the mod default to mirrored icons

i think the .rar files for alternative icons and normal icons are swapped

@Today, on How it’s Made Oh ... it's been almost a year I had to do it, you're perfectly right there are some screenshot missing about the prosthetics stats. Alright I'm adding this to my todo list (but I'm busy/weak health atm be patient)

What perks/stats do these new limbs you speak of have? What do they look like?

@tyler.lentz2005 Honestly do with the alternative icons, it's better (you have a .rar in the mod repertory to extract (I should update the mod to swap them). To answer your Q it's because it goes above most of those if you put the corner on right.
tyler.lentz.2012 28 Jan, 2023 @ 4:52pm
why not just put the corner icons on either the left or right instead of just the colors?

Hi! I am the developer of the Second Life of Kenshi mod pack, can I take your mod? I'll put you in the credits.
