R.U.S.T. Freighter Variants
8 items
Description
The R.U.S.T. Interplanetary Explorer is a variant of the original R.U.S.T. Freighter created by Aragath, and a sub-variant of my R.U.S.T. Mobile Processing ship with the capability of interplanetary operation. Consistent with the revised design that appears in the current game, this build is modless, but does use some DLC. The ship's basic hull structure is unchanged, but has been revised somewhat from the existing design to add many new features.

Beyond what is provided in the original design, the R.U.S.T. Interplanetary Explorer includes 6 advanced refineries with yield modules, 1 assembler with speed modules, 4 cryo chambers, 1 medical room, 1 large hydrogen tank (that replaces one of the large cargo containers), and 1 jump drive. Propulsion is provided by a combinaton of ion, hydrogen, and atmospheric thrusters. Two optional scripts are included in the 2 programmable blocks:
- Isy's Simple Doors script

- Automatic LCDs 2 script

RECOMMENDED STEPS FOR MINIMIZING HYDROGEN GAS CONSUMPTION DURING THE ASCENT TO SPACE
1. From the flight seat, use {Ctrl}-{2} to go to the second G-menu.
2. Depress {6} to increase thruster override to the hydrogen UP thrusters; continue to depress {6} until the maximum thrust is achieved.
3. Depress {7}, {8], and {9} to turn on all thrusters.
4. Depress either {3} or {4} to release the magnetic plates or connector, respectively, if locked.
5. Depress the "up" key to maximum UP thrust for the atmospheric and ion thrusters.
6. At an altitude of approximtely 7 km, depress {5} to reduce thruster override; continue to depress {5} until the speed starts dropping; keep the speed above 95 m/s.
7. Continue to depress {5} as the altitude increase and the planet's gravity diminishes until out of the planet's gravity well.

NOTES FOR BUILDING WITH A PROJECTOR IN SURVIVAL
(See the last picture for the projector's configuration.)
1. Stack 3 blocks, minimum, vertically atop a powered grid structure to provide sufficient clearance for building the ship.
2. Build a large-grid projector on top of the topmost block.
3. Load the blueprint into the projector; click on the setting to retain the blueprint after construction is complete.
4. Build the blueprint.
5. When completed, grind away the support blocks, leaving the projector in place for future repairs.

I made all of those cursed Abomination PvE drones, too. Some of those ugly spuds are hard to kill. I didn't realize they'd be so...interesting...when I created them.

righto, they each have their place. also love the ships you made for finalevent97's WLYC and WYCC mods. I chat with him quote often.

Thanks a lot for the kind words. I have enjoyed working up new variants of the original design.

You are absolutely correct about an update with new DLC. I was trying to keep the original level of applied DLC rather than add new ones, but have a go at it. I really like a lot of the new DLC, but I've gotta tell you that the new refineries and assemblers are more suited for a stationary base than for a ship, unless it's a big processing ship.

Wow, what a wonderful refresh of the original design. Gotta say I love all of your ship designs. I hate to ask, but don't you feel this ship in particular could use some love from Heavy Industry DLC blocks (pipes, Thrusters)? since you're using other DLC, you'd might as well. Keep up the wonderful work!
