Mail Coach

History:

RPO mail coaches are a coach designed to be a mobile post office. The service of carrying mail by rail was adopted as far back as the first railroads, like the Baltimore and Ohio in 1834. Remaining a small part of railroads until the 1850s when he need for more efficient mail services, pushed the federal government to make railroads carry mail.
The rail mail services were a difficult way for the railroads to make money, as it was a federally contracted job. For every minute the rail mail was late the railroad would lose money, which would be the main cause of many train wrecks. The RPO coaches remained a key element of the mail services in North America, until the mid 1930s when other transport methods overtook the mail rail services. On a slow decline since the mid 1930s the mail rail services survived up until 1977.

- Make sure the rolling stock couplers are connected properly, otherwise the brakes will not work properly.
- The mail catch is finicky and will not work properly unless you are fast.
