Description
And A Big Thanks to Claus

A huge inspiration for this mod, a greatly respected modder, and who also allowed usage of their amazing assets, some of which were further modified and used in this mod.

The Praetorians

Adds five new ADVENT Praetorians, and the Praetorian Sectopod.
Two Additional Praetorian-related Sitreps.

Rank and File Praetorians Include

Praetorian Guards

Praetorian Sterilizers

Praetorian Shieldmaidens

Praetorian Leadership Caste is composed of

Praetorian Lieutenants

Praetorian Captains

Grim Horizons

The Praetorians are designed to be a challenging set of enemies for the middle and lategame in their own right, but additionally, certain Dark Events (Base Game Dark Events, this mod does not add any Dark Events) will modify their capabilities in unique ways to make them even greater threats, especially when paired with the Grim Horizon setting.

What They Do

All Praetorians, with the Exception of the Praetorian Sectopod, are capable of functioning as Shieldbearers, with the ability to shield all nearby enemies, as well as being equipped with Praetorian Nanogels, which can reduce the damage taken when hit by multiple attacks in a turn, which varies in effectiveness between the Rank and File Praetorians and the Praetorian Leadership Caste.

Rank And File Praetorians

Praetorian Guards - As Rank and File as the Praetorians can get, the basic Praetorian Guards serve as the grunts of the Praetorian forces, their equivalent of ADVENT Troopers.

Praetorian Sterilizers - Former Purifiers, recruited to serve as the Praetorian equivalent of Explosive Specialists, Sterilizers, while armed with the standard issue Praetorian Bolters instead of a flamethrower, they still carry a complement of Incendiary Weaponry.

Praetorian Shieldmaiden - Armored, mobile, deadly, and equipped with a grapple to help them maneuver, Praetorian Shieldmaidens can be deceptively agile in navigating treacherous terrains, and can be highly effective flankers.

Leadership Caste

Praetorian Lieutenants - As Leadership Caste of the Praetorian Guard, they can grant their own action points to allied ADVENT Units, and override their normal behavior.

Praetorian Captains - The most toughest, most heavily armed and armored, and most elite of the Praetorian Guard Leadership Caste. Praetorian Captains wield an armament of weaponry to equal or outmatch the Praetorian Sterilizers, and can give allied ADVENT Units a bonus action point and override their normal behavior at no cost to themselves.

Leadership Caste may also, on rare occasion, drop expensive to manufacture special Praetorian equipment.

Praetorian Sectopods

The deadliest weapons of the Praetorian arsenal, Praetorian Sectopods serve as direct artillery support for the Praetorian Guard, and have a unique arsenal of weaponry that vary in effectiveness depending on ranges, and will strike the fear of the Elders and their servants into the hearts of the resistance.

What They Don't Do

Be Merciful to your soldiers, or make your campaign easier. Sell you ADVENT Burgers. Turn off the neon light show, the Praetorians are here to make a statement. Use fancy psionic powers. Offer discounts. Use Chryssalid Venom Injector ammo. Provide epic weaponry upgrades.

Compatibility Talk

The Old and Deprecated version of A Requiem of Man is incompatible, but aside from that, nothing else should be incompatible, including LWOTC or Covert Infiltration, to my knowledge.

If using The RPG Overhaul, you may or may not need to add these to the ignore list for RPGO's patching.

+IgnoreWeaponTemplatesForPatch = AHWPraetorianRifle
+IgnoreWeaponTemplatesForPatch = AHWPraetorianBombardCannon
+IgnoreWeaponTemplatesForPatch = AHW_Reaper_Launcher
+IgnoreWeaponTemplatesForPatch = AHW_Shrieker_Launcher

Hi Reshi, noticed you said the RPGO patch isn't needed anymore. Why is that, just in case it turns out to be relevant on my older save and I need to fix something? Where would I need to apply the fixes if it becomes relevant?
ReshiKillim  [author] 25 Jul @ 11:19pm
@Turambar Probably not needed anymore.

Isn't it possible to include the RPGO patch or make a dedicated mod? I switch RPGO on and off between games and will not reember tu manually patch this mod :/

What are the stats on the praetorian equipment XCOM can get?
ReshiKillim  [author] 16 Dec, 2023 @ 11:05pm
@Kinsect The Praetorian Bolters aren't currently a part of the Requiem Armory, no

Say is this compatible with the Requiem armory to get there weapons?

@Gorokhan That's all that's really needed, yes.

Hello Reshi, I would like to play this mod without the sectopod (just a personal preference). How do I do that? Do I just just delete the sectopod spawn distribution lines from XComEncounterLists.ini or is there more?
Gorokhan 30 Jun, 2023 @ 3:02pm
@The Baron use Notepad or better Notepad++ to open XComRPG.ini file in Config folder located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\268500\1280477867 assuming you installed both Steam and Steam games to C:\ drive. The ini file already has several lines of +IgnoreWeaponTemplatesForPatch (starting at line 164) for other things, just copy paste Praetorian lines right below them, save, and close the file.

Instead of the Sectopod icon from this mod, the Sectoid icon is shown. On all other Sectopods of the game, the icons are correct.
