The Dark Arts of Engineering - The Magic Gyro

Description
A construction that consists of multiple spinning rings while each "ring" actually consists of 4 interconnected and yet not-touching parts.
Furthermore the ring structure is made of small blocks while the base structure is made of large blocks. Power and commands can be transfered through the rotors from large to small and from small to large blocks.

The point of this build was not to show some very cool and stunning building skills, but to show a few tricky engine features you could employ for your own builds.
So spread the word and learn how to do it so i can see new creations from you! :-)

This build utilizes two different "features"
1. Large to Small rotor connections like described here http://forums.keenswh.com/post/merging-rotor-blocks-6825408?trail=30
2. The fact that structions can exist even though they are not physically connected to each other.

The rotors within the savegame are halted. To start them with a nice effect, turn them on one by one with from the top of the list with a slight delay.
Turning them all on at once causes one ring to not rotate properly.

Always stop the rotors when you want to save the world.
Do not save and reload the rotors when they are in motion because the middle rotor element has an offset to its stator element by about 1m (it is following it) when rotating at max speed. This offset would cause the middle setment to separate and fly away

Heh yes. Thanks to mod support and how it gets handled, this method of using "empty blocks" is much easier now as you dont have to leave the game anymore.

This happened to my M557 APC in the update that busted the mod folder pathing. So I have wheels, some mass blocks, rotors and floating gun emplacements that you can just slap a cockpit onto and drive around. It's unusual to say the least.

So you got it youself now? Well then i am glad i could contribute. I hope that you will come up with some interesting and "not so cheaty" designs for it :)
Not that in the end it gets "fixed" and we lose all the awesome creative potential xD

ah ok thx for that. found that on page 5 here when you wrote. i tried the full rotor thread with editing savegame and stuff to get the small rotor on top working. tooks me around 2 hours and in the last post you told how simple it is XD the post from midspace for the rotor part by editing the cubeblocks.sbc file was worth it ;-)

It is the "empty block" trick. Blocks that get removed outside the game wont get recognized to be missing until one of the blocks gets removed ingame.
Thus the structure holds together unless you remove a block or it gets destroyed from gunfire/grinder/etc.

To remove such a block outside the game, either use SEToolBox or a texteditor with an unencrypted savegame

how do you get blocks working without physically connection? my blocks are only flying away ;-)

Reminds me a lot of what you could do with WorldEdit in minecraft, deleting stuff without causing the game to update the surrounding blocks. You could get stuff like floating sand (sand is affected by gravity) or water that wouldnt flow anywhere.

PlaYer2k-Well, it is magic. Not just some magic but actually the very dark arts. It involves sacrificing little babies, eating their hearts and praising the daedra lords.

If this is magic.... I want to learn the ways of praising the Daedra lords, and building the reactor of light :Dossenus:
