My english may be lacking, but I hope that won't prevent the deliverance of information.

Discovery on character name length was spontaneous, and if someones already done that, well, that's cool, but so far, I couldn't be able to see any guide with this.

Discovery on bypass was found in Original DSII forums.

Let's get to the point!
Bypassing character's name length
Have you ever wanted to make a cool long name for cosplay reason or you've just come up name that is long? Well, the problem is that you can't type any names longer than 15 characters. There was a long time belief, that you can bypass it using Cheat Engine and then just name it from there after character creation. But that's actually not true. It appears, that any source that can type and copy paste you name after typing it on said source, it can bypass limit of 15 characters.

So how can you do that? Well, you may heard of Steam's Big Picture. Originally, the idea of Big Picture is suppose to imitate dashboards like in PlayStation And Xbox consoles. Because you could interact with console on a couch, and it's convenient. So the Steam made this for whatever the reason, but that's not the point. We just gonna use it to make that bypass.

On Steam, near your name, there is a icon of rectangle with diagnoal arrows. When you press it, brace yourself, cause it's kinda loud intro. You should see the window like this:

It doesn't matter if you use controller or KB+M to navigate through it. Now you just have to launch the game from this window and basically start new character. Proceed with to part, where you have to enter the name of your character.

When you press characters name, there will be Big Picture's mode, where you will see a keyboard and your typed text. You can just type freely with your keyboard or use controller to highlight the key you wanna press.

And after you hit the button "Done", it should show you that your name was typed in the box in Dark Souls II itself:

And now, you can just confirm the name.
Bypassing censor in the names.
Have you ever wondered why when you try to name your character (or you saw some while interacting in multiplayer) knight, you will see k***ht instead? Well, FromSoftware took censoring offensive stuff to the extremes, that even words, containing matching string from the list of words ( https://mod.gib.me/darksouls2/ngword/english.txt ) will still put a censor. This ruins the meme side of the names, and I even discovered some insults tha got me laughing hard.

But did you know that there's a couple of different lists of bannable words across multiple languages? Well, that is where bypass comes in. You don't need to download anything - everything is already within game files.

What do you need to do is to navigate to where you have game files of DARK SOULS™ II: Scholar of the First Sin. The easiest method to access them is:

  1. Right click on DARK SOULS™ II: Scholar of the First Sin, in your library;
  2. Find the tab called Local Files;
  3. Click Browse. The Explorer or whatever you use for browsing files should open.

Now if you are inside the game folder, there should be folder with the name "NGWord". The content of this folder as follows:

Each of these folders have a file:

The Chinese locale doesn't use that abovementiones list, so what you need to do is copy (NOT CUT!) the chinese file win32OnlyNgWord.bin and place it in English folder. If file explorer ask for a permission to replace the file, grant it.

And thats it! Well, the only drawback is that you can only see this. The people, who haven't done same procedure, will still have *** in names.
Conclusion.
Well, this is the end of short guide about interacting with your name. I am pretty much sure, that this should work at other Dark Souls games (from all I remember, they also have that limit), and maybe, for Elden Ring (currently still not released at the time when this guide was released), but since the procedure in not hard, you can always test it on other games and use it.

I strongly advise not to use any spammy name like "ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ", because people tend to be scared of this and if you play as an invader, host might just disconnect.

I am also not so sure about upper limit of the characters, because I never needed too much in my name (my max usage was 22), but I assume it's 30, because it should hardly fit into the text box in-game.

Thank you for reading the guide! Have a good time!
