Mysterious Illness

Description
This mod will apply a fake infection of varying severity most of the time a zombie hits you. This infection will never be lethal unlike the actual zombification virus, but it can still get pretty severe.

The fake illness you get has 3 different levels of severity, light, medium and heavy! Light severity will only make you feel queasy for a bit, medium severity will make you feel nauseous for a while whereas a heavy severity fake illness will make you quite sick!

While a fake infection will never kill you, it can still hinder you in other ways! Mainly by increasing your stress and, if severe enough, reducing your strength and healing!

Chances to catch each severity of the fake infection (and the chance to catch no fake infection at all!) can be tweaked in the sandbox settings.

Using the resilient or prone to illness traits will also increase/decrease the time it takes for you to recover from your fake infection! (Can also be disabled in the sandbox settings)

Ideally used with a mod that lets you cure or deal with zombification somehow, although not required. If you have a mod that checks you for infections then a fake infection should not test you positive, so get checking at the first sign of trouble!

Also now scales with your mortality duration setting in the sandbox (2-3 days by default). Mod will not work at all if you set the mortality duration to "never"!

Should be fully multiplayer (dedicated server and hosted in-game) and singleplayer compatible. Please let me know if you run into any problems. :)

well, it's been like a year and a half but I finally decided to bring this mod back from its grave

basically completely re-wrote it so it SHOULD work a lot better now, I've spent quite a bit of time messing around with it on test builds and not found any problems so far

check the change notes for a full look at all the changes, fixes and improvements! :)

and of course if you run into any problems lmk, I'm still fairly novice at modding but a lot better than when I took a crack at making this mod a year ago, so I'll try my best to fix any bugs that might pop up

no problems ^^ i'll use the other mod you recommended in one of the comments below (Sneaky Infections) and try this one again now and then. i think i like this more than that one. i would have sent you the log but i didn't have the forethought to save one then xD;

Strange, truth be told I haven't yet played 41.66. While I don't see why that update would've broken the mod I can't say that it isn't. It's also possible you have a mod conflict if there's something else you're using that messes with fake infections but I'm not aware of many mods that would.
I'll see if I can get around to having a look soonish, in the meantime I'd recommend disabling the mod if it won't play nice, sorry!

I've updated the mod to hopefully make things run a bit smoother and more consistent, along with making it so that there's a chance you get away from being hit by a zombie without catching this mod's fake illness.

I've tried to make sure there aren't any bugs and if you're already using this mod after the update nothing should break, but if you encounter any problems please feel free to let me know. :)

Next up I want to try working on sandbox settings for things like severity, chance to contract fake infection and the time scale the fake infection works over. (In case you're using this mod not on 1-2 week mortality)

not that I could tell, I did see a trait on the wiki that had the same effect but it has been removed from the game apparently

Is this no longer a feature in the game? I remember having this happen a lot, at least in build 40 and before

Well I suppose I can try and look into it, but as I've said, not very much modding experience so I'm not sure how it'll go
