Description
BROKEN - This creation has 1 or more things broken due to updates.
Things expected to not work:
Nuclear Reactor - Boiler control system broken by removal of pressure node
Ballast system - Blowing and filling ballast is highly unlikely to work.

--Introduction--
Norðr(pronounced nor-dyr) is a medium/small sized nuclear submarine, that was designed to provide a lower cost of entry into the SSN sphere. Smaller navies that are looking to replace their aging diesel electric boats but can't afford the likes of Eikthyr or Robert 4 need not look further, Norðr is the sub for the job. While the words "low-cost" and "nuclear submarine" might not sound like a good combination, Norðr actually features a large suite of features, which include(but not are limited to):

>>Features<<
- Marino sonar guided torpedoes
- Stationary and traveling depth hold
- Airlock
- VHF radio
- Multiple waypoint autopilot
- Damage control systems
- Periscope
- Elevated radar mast
- Beacon locator
- Anchor
- Dual heavy auto-cannons, with large ammo reserves
- RWR and chaff dispensers
--------
Lore aside, Norðr actually was a (relatively) quick project for me, and more of an experiment in building more interesting and better looking hulls. I also wanted to build a sub that would be useful, to me in career mode, hence it's smaller size and somewhat cheaper price. Additionally, since intended it to be a career mode submarine, it was important that everything is pretty accessible for repairs, which for the most part it is.

--Operating Procedures/Things to Note--
1. Due to the condenser for the nuclear reactor being cooled by a direct seawater loop, it will be affected the deeper you go. I've included an RGB indicator at the dive officers station to indicate the status of this at a various depths. Green means that you can continuously operate, yellow means that your time will be limited(keep an eye on your condenser temp), and red is very limited. This is also affected by the environment where you're operating, ie. you can go deeper in colder waters. Also, running the heaters does affect this, so try to only use them when necessary. The reactor is pretty safe and it's not like you'll explode, but you will probably lose power output.

2. To use the stationary depth hold, make sure the depth hold is enabled, ballast tank is full, and that you are below 20kph. It will activate automatically.

3. The ballast tanks are not designed to be emptied deep underwater. They drain very quickly on the surface to enable deck gun attacks, but for changing depth vertically, use the stationary depth hold.

>>Future Plans<<
As I said earlier, this was basically a little experiment in hull design that I just decided to run with. I really enjoy the exterior look, but the interior is just kinda average. While my stuff is functional, I know that it isn't too pretty on the inside. So my goal before the next sub is to actually improve in that regard. No promises on when or what the next thing will be, life has been busy.

Hope you enjoy the submarine, and have a great day!

im a sucker for cramped/tiny subs, so i really like the interior on this one despite it not being pretty!

Not sure. I've got 2 in the works, an ICBM submarine and Robert 5, but I've been feeling burnt out on stormworks so I haven't been working on them. While both of them are functional(nuclear reactors work and they can drive around) I'm struggling to improve on my interior design skills and make them better then my previous stuff, which is the main goal.

what is the cruise missile launch code?

You run both the electric motor at max throttle and have direct drive on, while underwater(at least below -12 in depth).
PO3Superduck 28 Jan, 2022 @ 2:19pm
how do you get it up to 79?

Yeah, the buoyancy/pitch control are a little less uniform then I'd like. The solution might just be in making the depth hold a bit more aggressive.

Really nice sub, Only issues ive seen with it are it stuggles to dive, can take a littlewile for the dive planes to force it under
