Description
This version, as with all others, was created by Wolphin with the help of others.

Here is the link to the original Hard Rain: Downpour.

---------------------

So, if you're me, well you aren't, so...

I have gone through about 3 low end PC's, whatever ends up in my hands I use my knowledge to stretch its lifespan and performance. L4D2 happens to be a game I have played on all 3 PC's since 2015. A lot. I also have made at least one workshop item on each PC.

Recently, alongside TLS my absolute favorite community campaign, Hard Rain Downpour, received an update... In which broke the whole campaign.
Color corrections are missing, custom skyboxes are gone, the last 2 chapters are broken, and the intro doesn't pause the game, causing the infected to go crazy and murder you out of the boat. Rooms and stuff have also been removed, sadly.

Because of this, a while ago I tried retrieving the older version from a google drive backup of my local L4D2 addons, but only the addon preview image survived, likely because I cancelled the long upload after being my impatient younger self.

I realized just today though, that I have a SATA drive reader in my closet, and one of two PC's with an SSD that still has the older version of Hard Rain: Downpour from the workshop. (The other SSD got fried during the middle of the night, IE: the whole drive cannot even be turned on. But I think HRD on that one was already replaced by the new ver.)

I successfully managed to extract the VPK from the last remaining drive and... Here we are. The HRD I remember and love to death. In all its pre-TLS glory.

Obviously, this is not in any manner my creation at all. I did a data mine on myself from an older harddrive that had HRD on it.

I left comments on the original addon (I deleted them after no avail), and there has been other people aware of the new broken state of the campaign, but the developers have not responded, which is reasonable since the addon is old. (The time span between when this "version" was released and the update that broke it is a whopping 7 years.) But, since I love the campaign, I took it upon myself to store a cloud BU of my preferred version on the workshop for myself and others. I have also yet to find a version that is pre-TLS anywhere on the internet, so I'm left to wonder if miraculously this is the last surviving VPK of the campaign before it broke.

Things to note:

- Obviously this won't work with the original Hard Rain: Downpour, as every single file will conflict.

- This VPK was completely untouched after extraction. It is exactly as it came out. The VPK's last modified date was ‎Thursday, ‎August ‎23, ‎2018, ‏‎5:30:34 PM.

- Coach has the custom textures that originally were included with this addon, so don't be surprised if he suddenly is wearing blue/yellow or something of the matter.

- The incremental rain present in the first chapter might or might not work depending on your current gamemode, this is actually a byproduct of the TLS update, not the campaign itself. So technically this would altogether work on older versions of L4D2.

- If there was anything originally wrong with this version, expect that to be in here.

- Again, I did not make this. This is not my campaign. This is Wolphin's, and is also a collaborative work with 3 other authors. If you have any kudos to give, or positive feedback, direct it towards the original addon!

Enjoy, guys.

Yes. That is because the VPK is as it was untouched before the update. This was done on purpose.

is it supposed to conflict with the original?

this map always crashes between loading in different safe houses. like i get to a safe house, closes the door, wait 5 seconds and left 4 dead 2 crashes so hard it sends me back to steam closing the entire game. is there a fix for this because this map looks really cool and i want to experience it in full but at the moment such a thing seems impossible.

@MAN I did too!

@Bizargh

So I dove into the VPK and it turns out there are no patch notes within, just a "thanks to" note. But by comparing the content and patch notes, its very clear that this VPK directly correlates to the version available on gamemaps that was released on 09/06/14, and replaced on 04/26/16. As for the workshop, the same version was released 09/06/14, but was replaced 03/25/21, much later than gamemaps, just as you said. So this VPK is definitely the version prior to the break, and was the 7th update to the campaign.

Actually, scratch that. I messed up the order of updates, I see what you guys are talking about now.

@Bizargh

I did score a quick look at the VPK using GCFscape before uploading to the workshop, I think there was patch notes in the root directory in a normal text file. I'll definitely get around to doing that when I get home from work today. Very intriguing.
It could be the changes that were given to the campaign on Gamemaps in 2016, however the VPK's origin was the Workshop, 2014. So it depends actually if the workshop was updated first then they got around to updating gamemaps 2 years later, since this addon seems to have a history of sparse continuity updates between the workshop and its 3rd party hosts.

@Bizargh Correct, 2016 version IS the same version currently on workshop, it just took THAT long to update it on workshop...
