[RICO] Hong Kong Public Housing - Standard Trident 4 Block - Lite Edition

This asset is a semi-replica of Yiu Hong House, a 34-storey standard Trident 4 (a.k.a. Y4) block ¹ in Tin Yiu (I) Estate. Constructed in the 1990s, the estate is the first public housing estate ² in Tin Shui Wai - one of Hong Kong's new towns (i.e. satellite city).

Trident blocks are Y-shaped residential buildings with three wings, predominately deployed in the new towns as for-sale flats (and sometimes rental flats) starting from the mid-1980s until the first half of the 1990s. The master plan includes 4 standard variations, each differs from the others in terms of layout and appearance. Although Trident 4 is the last-in-series, it is deemed the most efficient one as it consumes the least space.

Public Rental Housing (PRH) estates are the most prevalent type of public housing estates in Hong Kong, housing up to 28% of the city's population. Under the PRH scheme, the government offers rental flats with basic amenities to eligible tenants at an affordable price below the market level.



This is a complete rework of Junna's Hong Kong housing block "Trident 4" (RICO) asset. You may unsubscribe to that one if you subscribe to this one. It's also okay if you want to keep both.

Everything! I actually reworked the whole thing, including the model and texture, just to bring you the most up-to-date experience. Some of the key changes are as follows:

Public housing blocks in Hong Kong are really machines for living in! They're always designed in the most pragmatic manner - Not only would they need to make full use of the site's potential to achieve the greatest development outcome, but they also have to fulfil all the basic quality, safety and livability standards as mandated by the law.



Well, papa Le Corbusier had already explained it all: An apartment is only an effective tool to help provide necessities of life and nothing more. We should even feel more "comfortable" and "productive" if the apartment we live in is sufficiently efficient.

But it still requires a lot of effort to formulate a good design because there're so many factors we have to consider throughout the process. For example:

- You have a limited budget.
- You must not exceed any limitations allowed by the law.
- Lands are precious so don't waste any single piece of land.
- The site area is small, but you still have to meet the minimum housing goal.
- Maxing out the plot ratio is good. But if it's too much, many will complain.
- Tenants will be happy if you create more space illusion for their flats.
- Make sure the rental income can cover up the cost after "some" years.
- You better make things fast-to-build and easy-to-maintain.
