Melbourne Theme

Description
Hi everyone,

Here's my Melbourne Theme.

No Theme Mixer mod required if your map has a Temperate base theme.

For maps with all other base themes, Theme Mixer 2 is required.

Please read the description - it'll help you make the most of it!

Geographic Description
I created this theme specifically for a Melbourne map I'm working on.

The idea was to recreate the colours and textures found in and around Melbourne, Australia.

Will I ever finish the map? Maybe. If not, you got a beautiful theme you can use for your Australian builds, as well as other similar regions such parts of New Zealand, Southern Chile, Central California, Southern Europe and South Africa.

Theme Description
This theme is ideal if you're looking for a versatile colour range typically found in temperate regions.

The green grass and fertile colours recreate the countryside east of Melbourne, Gippsland and Southern Victoria, particularly in winter.

Field, gravel, oil and ore textures recreate the more arid tones found north-west of the city along the Calder Freeway, specially in summer.

Sand and water textures attempt to recreate the dark blue and green tones found around Port Phillip Bay, with inspiration taken specifically from Williamstown, St Kilda and Mornington.

Ruined surfaces recreate the Yarra River banks and the many creeks in Melbourne.

Finally, footpaths and roads were inspired by newer suburb developments and the most common bitumen colour in the city.

Climate
The theme is for temperate maps, with temperatures ranging within historical highs and lows (46.4°C / 115.52°F down to -2.8°C / 26.96°F).

Weather probabilities:
  • Rain probability 10%.
  • Fog probability 5 to 10%.
  • Northern Lights probability 0% - well, technically Southern Lights. Even though they are visible from parts of Southern Victoria, once they appear in game they appear every night, which is highly unrealistic. It was therefore set to 0%.

Disaster Probabilities
Disaster probabilities for those with Natural Disasters DLC:
  • Forest fire probability 6%.
  • Thunderstorm probability 6%.
  • Earthquake probability 2%.
  • Sinkhole probability 2%.
  • Tornado probability 2%.
  • Tsunami probability 2%.
  • Meteor strike probability 1%.

Visual Recommendations - not required but highly recommended
The theme has no required items and will work just fine without mods or in Vanilla maps.

It's highly recommended that you select the European Color Correction Override in the game Options \ Graphics \ Preferences \ Color Correction.

Textures and Disclaimer
I do not own any of the textures used in this theme.

All textures have been made by far more skilled creators, namely:
  • Cliff Diffuse - Realistic V1.4.5 European by Captain Soap.
  • Cliff and Sand Normal - Australia Coast HD map theme by pdelmo.
  • Road Diffuse - Starburg Map Theme by Ronyx69.
  • Grass - Realistic V1.4.5 European by Captain Soap.
  • Gravel - Laviante 2.0 by Arnold J.Rimmer & notDONEyet.
  • Oil - SCT-ROCKYSHORE by Raffa.
  • Ore - Farmland Europe by Avanya.
  • Pavement - Cedar Valley 4K by Strictoaster & Mark Fire.
  • Ruined - Laviante 2.0 by Arnold J.Rimmer & notDONEyet.
  • Sand Diffuse - Australia Coast HD map theme by pdelmo.
  • Water Foam - Grassland theme by tete.
  • Water Normal - Seenu (Official Map Theme) by Strictoaster.

If you are one of these creators and want me to remove your texture just let me know, as my intention was not to copy but simply to create a more realistic theme for the map I'm building.

Feedback
Don't forget to rate and leave feedback so I can keep improving the theme.

If you run into any issues, just leave a comment before rating so I can fix it.

Enjoy!

Hello! jpgmelbs I liked your theme, but I noticed that the texture of fertile land is a dark color and the ore texture is from a cultivated field, would it be possible to invert the textures, the ore being a dark color and for fertile land the texture of cultivation? Thank you very much for your work!

Absolutely! I'll have to wrap my head around the new game, but I plan on bringing out a theme based in the area.

i love this theme, hope you can bring out a version for skylines 2

That's what I was thinking too.

The theme is for Temperate maps, so it's not possible to select it for a map that has Boreal as a base theme.

Was gonna recommend what you've already done with Theme Mixer 2.

Hope you've enjoyed the Avail Valley map with the theme.

Thank you for checking, I've been keeping everything up to date. Did you find that this theme is indeed usable for maps that are not Temperate in base setting? I don't want to bother you too much though as the issue is likely rather with the map and not your theme, I was mostly reaching out to cover all the bases. I have since forced it's use through Theme mixer 2, so there's no practical problem at this point.

Hey Frag-Ile.

I'm not experiencing any issues with the theme.

Are you sure it's not a mod affected by the recent updates?

I had to subscribe to newer versions of my mods after a year without playing, but the theme is still working fine for me.

Hey Frag-Ile. Nope, nothing's changed other than I haven't had time to play the game for almost a year. I'm looking at whether any of the new updates have affected anything, but let me get back to you.

Did something change to make this theme only usable on Temperate maps recently? Was that always the case? Because it's not working with a map that recommends it, Avail Valley, which has a base theme of Boreal.

This theme doesn't show up for me.
