Controlled Impact

Description
This mod sets to slightly improve the durability of your vehicles. It adds an entire new skill to the game called "Controlled Impact." It is listed under the weapon skills. Being a weapon skill, it has no skill books.

This mod should work with any modded vehicle, and with any scripts that repair vehicles on the fly. If a vehicle gets damaged by a script, this will try to mitigate that damage. I think of it as a feature...

Please do note that while it makes your vehicle take less damage in wrecks, it does not make you the driver take less damage.

Adds a new profession and adds some starting points into select professions. I couldn't think of any good buyable traits for it, so there's that.

Now, if you've gotten this far, you probably want to know how it works. This mod adds a chance of a saving throw to save vehicle part durability on any part taking damage. The exact chance of saving and the damage mitigated is dependent on the skill of the level.

At level 0, it's a 20% chance of mitigating 20% damage. At level 10, it's a 100% chance of mitigating 60% damage. It scales linearly between these points. One caveat is if a part breaks in a wreck, it will not be saved. Is the level 10 OP? I don't think so, as you will have to level it *a lot* so I think if you manage to wreck your way to level 10... you deserve the guaranteed damage reduction...

Leveling the skill is based on successfully mitigating damage during a collision. xp is granted depending on how much damage was mitigated. Bigger wrecks mean more xp, in that at a point you get 1 xp for every point of damage mitigated. Does this mean you can farm xp by smashing cars into various things all day? It does yes, but that's kinda how most things you farm that aren't crops is like in zomboid lets be honest, this would be a very resource intensive skill to farm.

If you read this far, please feel free to give feedback in the thread I've made for it. I made this mod in under 24 hours, but spent far more time playing with it and giving it to testers. Its balance is still quite up in the air.

Hello @Vilespring, firstly awesome work on your mod + work.

Secondly i wanted to let you know(maybe you already know), your mod is incompatible with Driving Skill mod, if you use both as soon as you enter in a car, it starts giving thousands of errors in Error Magnifier, if you disable one of them and play it without the other, it works as intended.

Hope that there is a solution since them both add skills and would be awesome to use both, because in my oppinion they would work together good.

PS.: If is needed i can post the error from error magnifier.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart in advance.

Modded vehicles is fine. Seatbelts will be fine as it only cares about vehicle and not the player.

Unsure about that mod, but answer is probably fine with that MP mod with the caveat I still need to investigate the desync issues.

Just haven't had the time to.

For the most part. It needs a tiny thing to work a bit better but I've personally used it since making it.
