More Description for Traits [b42 & b41]

Description
B42 Unstable Update (Former version is still there for b41 compatibility)

- Added Mod options
- Added Free Recipes

What's new in b42 ? Some stuff.

  • A lot of changes to the cost of traits. Like High Thirst now gives only one point
  • Corpse Sickness : Weak Stomach now gives +25% Corpse Sickness , Resilient -25% Corpse Sickness
  • Grapple Effectiveness : a bonus / malus towards grappling things, given by a few traits. Currently it only affects dragging corpses I think.
  • Dextrous is now even more op somehow, giving bonuses to gun jamming
  • Desensitized no longuer negates panic, it greatly reduces panic instead
  • And more things such as new traits, new free recipes, new effects...

NEW (b42) : Dynamic Free recipes
Free recipes have been dynamically added to each trait and profession description, which means any future free recipe changes in vanilla will automatically show up on this mod, without needing to update the mod.
Modded traits will also have their free recipes added to their description, just like the foraging stats. And modded recipes will also dynamically show up if they are given for free to a trait or profession.

NEW (b42) : Mod Options
There are now 3 mod options :
  • Show more description
  • Show Free Recipes
  • Show Foraging Stats
So you can now disable the things you don't want to see.

Give your feedback

I've tried to be as exhaustive as possible, but I'm sure I've made some mistakes or interpreted things wrongly here and there. Please tell me in the feedback & bug reports discussions , or just leave a comment.

This mod is intended for players who are confused about what effects each trait and profession has on the character.

It adds description to the traits that need it to describe their effects on the character in detail, instead of leaving people guessing with vague sentences. This way, players can have an easier time imagining their own builds by themselves.

It also adds the description on mouse hover in the character's info screen, in game. This works with descriptions of traits from other mods too, like Banjo's item kits or Dynamic traits for example.

This is based on a combination of my own knowledge, the game's non-exposed Java files (that I learned how to decompile), the game's exposed Lua files, your feedback, and the wiki of PZ.

Most of what I added in the traits' descriptions are in parenthesis so you can distinguish what is vanilla description and what is not.

If you notice a typo, or know of an effect that is not listed, or spot something that is wrong or poorly worded, please leave a comment to point it out to me. I don't think I got every single effect that could be listed, and I may have made a mistake somewhere, so I'm relying on you guys for that.

Compatibility
Works with build 41, in multiplayer b41, and unstable b42.
It should also be compatible with any mod that adds traits or skills.

Translations
B41 translations are CLOSED.
B42 translations are open , but be advised that it risks becoming obsolete soon as B42 gets more matches, and I will most likely take a couple weeks to add the translation.

Anyone is welcome to volunteer to translate to their language.

Foraging stats:
The mod details the foraging stats bonuses for each trait and profession.
Stats are : Foraging radius bonus, Weather Effect reduction, and Darkness Effect reduction and also Specialisation bonuses for every foraging category.
All foraging stats are added dynamically, which means any balance changes will be automatically updated, and other traits that get foraging stats in their descriptions (if they have foraging stats).

Character Info Screen Tooltip:
The mod displays the detailed description of each trait in the character's info screen window on mouse hover. Works for professions too (except Unemployed since it doesn't have an image).
Works with traits of other mods too! Although their descriptions probably won't be as detailed.

There are encoding errors in the Polish translation, characters such as Ą, Ę, Ł etc. are not displayed correctly

Heh everything always breaks at the worst time. No worries, no rush was expected, have a good new year.

@Sheggorath @star I'll fix that at the end of the week, I gotta celebrate the new year first

Confirm. The detailed description disappears.

I may have found a bug? If I pick a trait then unpick it the detailed description disappears and it goes back to the simple default info. Sorry if I just missed something, I did try running it without any other mods and it still happened. If I reload the mods the text comes back until I deselect the trait again, it's just not sticking in character creation. Still technically usable, just a bit of a pain when I'm trying to figure out the best combos I want.

@PullMyChud Aside from -50%thirst and +100% thirst there's nothing more to say about "High Thirst" and "Low Thirst"
PullMyChud 29 Dec, 2024 @ 8:20pm
Just curious, are "High Thirst" and "Low Thirst" traits supposed to have no additional info? They seem to be the only traits that don't have any type of expanded description.

@culodesardina You choose the game language in the Display Options and it will load the matching translation of the mod if it exists. If the mod doesn't have the translation of that language it will be english by default. In both b41 & b42
culodesardina 28 Dec, 2024 @ 1:21pm
Is the translation chosen by itself when choosing the game language or do I have to copy and paste it into a file? (b41)

@Blessed Mother Try changing the load order of your mods, I remember other people had the same issue and changing the load order solved it
