About the model
A Cathedral is something else than what I normally do, especially in a colonial style, but this posed a nice challenge to model.

This model has been created through my new work flow. This workflow is more detailed. This means it can also be used in first and third person games. This model has a 4096x1024 texture. The building has about 44.000 tris and a lod texture of 512x512 and a lod model of about 607 tris. Normal mapped, alpha, illumination and specularmapped. They all share the same texture. Because it's quite a heavy model I had to split this in 3 parts. That's why it makes use of subbuildings. You should be able to save some RAM through use of LSM.

You can always follow my assetcreations on the Simtropolis forums: http://community.simtropolis.com/forums/topic/68841-darfs-buildings-the-dorilton-new-victory-theater/ or on sketchfab: https://sketchfab.com/sannie01

This is a unique building. You can always use local RICO settings if you want to use the buildings in another way for example police.

About the building
The Metropolitan Cathedral of Asunción (or Metropolitan Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption ) is the main Catholic temple in Asunción . It is located in the Barrio Catedral , in the historic center of the capital of Paraguay . It was the first diocese of the Río de la Plata.

The last current model was built during the government of Don Carlos Antonio López and inaugurated in 1845 . It is dedicated to the Virgin of the Assumption , patron saint of the capital city of the country. It has a main altar covered in silver.

From its origins, the aforementioned church was called La Encarnación, it was built with wood and clay in 1539 , but with the fire in Asunción , on February 4 , 1543 , the church and almost the entire town were burned.

The governor at that time, Alvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca , ordered the rebuilding of the church, near the ravine and wider than the previous one. The "Greater Church of Asunción" was the first built in the only city in the entire region of Plata , it was the seat of the first Cathedral of Asunción, erected on January 10 , 1548 , under the invocation of the Blessed Virgin, named after Virgin to the Assumption, by Mary.

In accordance with the desire of the Bishop of Casas "to make it again in a more remote part of the river", the new building was built higher up, on the site where the current Cathedral is today. Gutiérrez, in his work "Urban and Architectural Evolution of Paraguay", says that this transfer was due to the floods that modified the profile of the ravine. The relocation to the Cathedral began on 8 of February of 1687 , five months after the death of Bishop Faustino de Casas. It was inaugurated on November 30 , 1689 .

With the arrival of the consuls Carlos Antonio López and Mariano Roque Alonso to the Government of Paraguay, it was decided to demolish again the old construction of the cathedral, which did not even have a bell tower , to replace it with a more modern one according to its function of Main Cathedral of Paraguay .

The temple was designed by the Military Architect Pascual Urdapilleta , who also worked on the renovation of the Cultural Center of the Republic . Its construction began on May 10, 1842 and was assisted by Carlos Zucchi, Patricio Aquino and Tomás Berges. On 27 October as as 1845 the new cathedral was consecrated still unfinished. She was blessed by the Vicar General Monsignor Pedro José Moreno, since due to illness she could not fulfill such an important commitment, the Diocesan Bishop Monsignor Basilio López. Since then the cathedral continues with the neoclassical architecture built in the 19th century , until today.

The November to July of 2015 , the current Supreme Pontiff of the Catholic Church, the pope Francisco , celebrated a Mass in the cathedral.

@Darf Hey Darf, could I contact you about what buildings you're working on in Detroit? I was planning on doing some, and I wouldn't want to duplicate anything you have in the works (i.e. Fisher Building and other landmarks ;)

First of all amazing model! But I'm having trouble using it, when placing it a sub-building says that there's no road connection. Should I just ignore it? Am I doing something wrong?

Yeah, love the building, though very complex. It actually has a twin in Buenos Aires. Palacio Barolo.

Sure, but kind of depends on the building. Busy time for me at work so I don't have much spare time/energy.
