Description
What is this mod?! What have you done?!
This mod adds corpse children, for when you're tired of not making new colonists from the bodies of the fallen. Specifically, this mod adds two things: a trait and a childhood backstory both called "Corpse Child," where the backstory forces the trait. Pawns with the trait have new menu options when right-clicking on downed or dead pawns. Specifically:

1.) Creating a new corpse child from a corpse.
This is time consuming and of course can be interrupted by vomiting etc, so if the initiating corpse child has food poisoning etc it's probably wise to wait until that calms down. This requires that the dead pawn has all vital parts still intact (eg brain, heart, spine, at least one kidney etc etc) and in a "good enough" state as defined by the corpse child. Pawns created in this fashion will have the "Corpse Child" backstory and trait and the "Staggeringly Ugly" trait, will retain the gender, melanin, and non-conflicting traits of the "donor" pawn, and will have injuries converted to permanent. This means that if the corpse was missing their legs, so will this new corpse child. This will consume the corpse.

2.) Stealing body parts.
If the corpse child has a missing or damaged body part, he can steal natural body parts from a dead or downed pawn. Note that the replacement body part will be in the same state that it was on the donor pawn: if a corpse child steals a shoulder with a missing arm, the corpse child will end up with a missing arm. The corpse child can not steal and attach bionics directly in this manner. Corpse children can not replace vital body parts: a corpse child can not remove their brain or torso to replace it with a donor pawn's.

3.) Consuming skills.
If the dead or downed pawn has a brain and has higher skills than the corpse child, the corpse child can consume their brain for a skill boost. This is much more effective when the donor pawn is alive.

4.) Consuming passions.
If the dead or downed pawn has a brain and has skills with higher passions levels than the corpse child, the corpse child can consume their passions. The donor's body will not survive this experience.

5.) Stealing traits.
A corpse child can steal certain traits from a dead or downed pawn. If a donor pawn is more attractive or tougher than the corpse child, the corpse child can choose to steal the parts necessary to replicate that trait. This supports vanilla traits as well as traits from other mods as noted in the below section "Supported trait mods".

A sample scenario has been added to start with a single corpse child; this is the bit that requires the "Scenario Pawns and Corpses" mod since it's adding a backstory to the scenario.

Things to note!
Corpse children are different:
1.) They cannot learn, and can only grow in skill by consuming the brains of other pawns.
1.a) Note: this can be changed via the Corpse Children Can Learn mod.
2.) They still feel pain, but will never fall to pain alone.
3.) They are largely indifferent to harvesting pawns or corpses, unless the donor is a fellow colonist.
4.) Their hastily constructed forms lead them to be hideous individuals, misshapen and scarred.
5.) Corpse children start with no feelings towards their makers; this combined with the staggering ugliness of the corpse children can lead to negative social interactions. If you work hard and eat the right people you can strive to get a better relationship than Frankenstein's with his monster.

This obviously ends up with quite a different balance for these pawns.

Supported trait mods
The following trait mods are supported for theft by Corpse Children:
1.) Fallout Traits
2.) Vanilla Traits Expanded
3.) Synergistic Traits
4.) More Practical Traits
5.) RimTraits - General Traits
6.) Traits Excel
7.) Additional Traits (Heroes + Gods Optional)

Important bits
Q: If I don't start the backstory added in the scenario, can I still get a corpse child?
A: The backstory is shuffled in, so it's possible to find pawns with this backstory and trait during play. Note that this can be a trap: you can now have pawns join that can't learn skills without eating brains.

Q: Will corpse children perform these new actions autonomously?
A: No. These actions can only be forced through the pawn context menu.

Q: Can I add this to an existing save?
A: Probably? Let me know if you have issues.

Q: Can I remove this from a save?
A: I wouldn't recommend it. The backstory and trait will be removed which could cause issues with pawns that have 'em.

Q: Any issues with adding new mods to saves with this mod active?
A: If a pawn is in the middle of stealing a body part and a mod is added that adds a body part type (like ankles, a second head, or a startling number of extra toes), the body part indexing may end up with weird results. It'd be best to have the pawn finish or cancel the task, save, and then add in the mod.

Q: Is this compatible with X mod?
A:
* This has been made more compatible with Pawnmorpher: pawns can now steal mutated body parts or replace their own mutated body parts.
* There was previously a conflict with Humanoid Alien Races in the base mod (Scenario Pawns and Corpses), but this should now be addressed.
* Others? I have nooooo idea. If the mod is adding new body part types, it should be compatible other than the above notes about adding in new mods. If the mod is adding new buildings, new pawn types, new etcs then it should just work. If the mod is changing up all kindsa things, there may be unexpected incompatibilities.

Q: Do you have other mods?
A: Why, thank you for asking, hypothetical reader. I have a few::
* Scenario Pawns and Corpses, which allows new backstories and starting corpse options to be added to the scenario editor.
* Bonded Leather, a mod that allows (expensive) upgrading of leathers and wools.
* Techprints Are Relics, a mod that turns integrated techprints into relics for the tech-cultists amongst us.

Q: Do you have other patches for this mod?
A: I have a few now:
* Corpse Children Can Learn, which adds Slow Learning to the corpse children rather than a flat out inability to learn.
* Corpse Children: Ghoulish Body Enhancement, which allows corpse children to further upgrade themselves with body parts from the dead or downed.
* Corpse Children in Rimworld of Magic, which makes the traits from Rimworld of Magic acquirable through consumption.

Q: Can I upload scenarios using this mod, can I add this mod to a mod pack, and/or can I create derived mods from this mod?
A: Sure. I'd be interested to hear what you do with it.

Big ol' thanks
* Big ol' thanks to Ludeon Studios for a great game.
* Big ol' thanks to all the modders! You guys rock.
* Big ol' thanks to everyone that has been playing with this mod and/or enjoying playing with this mod!
* Special big ol' thanks to Get Donked On who did the work to allow the Corpse Children to eat traits from More Practical Traits, RimTraits - General Traits, Traits Excel, and Additional Traits (Heroes + Gods Optional), as well as others for the Corpse Children in Rimworld of Magic mod!

Great to know. I don't really mind the "slow" part as long as you are doing it to be honest. My so called "main" character has always, and I mean really ALWAYS had corpse children backstory so just wanted to know if I'm going to be doing that for 1.5 too lol. And I really really think anormally dlc is going to go so well with this mod(concept play wise). Thank you for taking your time to answer. Now I will just quietly wait for this to go 1.5 ;)
