The a-5 attack aircraft is an all-weather heavy carrier based attack aircraft of the US Navy.

The a-5 attack aircraft adopts a tandem two seater swept wing aerodynamic layout and is equipped with two turbojet engines. The full load and total weight of the whole aircraft is up to 36 tons. It is one of the largest and heaviest supersonic carrier based aircraft of the U.S. Navy and one of the most advanced aircraft at that time. It adopts a large number of new technologies. At the beginning of its design, it was mainly designed to carry out tactical nuclear strike missions, but later it was used as a tactical reconnaissance aircraft.

The a-5 attack aircraft was developed by American North American Airlines in 1953. It first flew on August 31, 1958 and was delivered to the army in 1961. It once undertook the tasks of tactical investigation and confirmation of results in the Vietnam War. It was discontinued in 1963 and retired in 1979
