Luftschiff 104 - Osthimmel-Type Luftballon

Description

Wilkommen, aviator.
As the tyrannical states of the East spread their influence, it has been mandated that we - the Republic of Arsten - must intervene immediately. Inaction has consequence, they say, and thus we shall strike first.

Due to the imminent threat of the Tarken regime, as well as their unwarranted aggression on NEST, the Osthimmel Luftballon series has been - after many years in reserve - reintroduced into the Republic's arsenal. Their inferior "border frigates" will stand no chance in the coming conflicts.

Over the span of the coming weeks, it is clear that great bloodshed shall occur - and you, aviator, have been selected from the vast reserves of the Luftwaffe to captain Luftballon 104 "Gretta" - one such Osthimmel Luftballon. Thus, you are to board her immediately, and await further orders.

Godspeed, aviator.

Images slightly outdated - the Osthimmel is now armed.

The anchor is activated and deactivated from a key switch on the front of the catwalk - it should raise and lower on its own once toggled. To reach the control room, simply walk down the catwalk and enter the superstructure through the door. You can also access the engine from the ladder in the same room. Once in the control room, the lever on the left will control the altitude, whereas the one on the right will control the throttle - note that it can idle, so feel free to set it to 0. The gun on the 'chin' of the ship is controlled by the control station to the left of the pilot/navigator, whereas the broadside guns are controlled by the two seats on them - one of these seats will allow you to elevate, whereas the other will allow you to traverse. Both have their own sights and spotlights to aid in aiming.

You can spawn this in any of the locations that feature a large dock or a large hangar. It's easier to get it out of the dock, but it takes a bit more effort to get out of the hangar. You can also, alternatively, spawn it via a mission.

Having trouble entering? A cool feature of creative mode is that you can press the Home key (or whatever key you have it mapped to) to basically fly. Use that to noclip your way onto the catwalk, and then press the key again to teleport there. Otherwise, you can change the default altitude setting in the cockpit and jump onto one of the safety nets.

Considering making more airships to fit into the same universe as this. I dunno - keep an eye out for said airships in the future, though (assuming you're interested).

If you couldn't tell, the first line is literally just pure propaganda. Arsten isn't what it seems. 😊

This is a really, really old build. I doubt I'm continuing its project, since I'm focusing more on the LMT builds now, but there's always the chance of more in the future :)

Are you going to make a Fleet? If so it'd be badass.
Also I love the architecture of the build with all the railings and ropes, very good job!

Absolutely loving this vehicle. Does it have any welders onboard?

if the doors are locked, they're not meant to be opened. unfortunately, i never modelled the full interior of the osthimmel, and can't since it already lags a bit too much for my liking
