//Requirements//
Nothing should be required as it should all be packed into the bsp. The map file itself should be "rp_city17transitblock_prewar", minus the quotation marks.

Do note that while no game should be required, the size and scope of the map WILL cause issues for users on lower end PCs despite rigorous optimization. As well, be aware that despite attempts to prevent conflicts, other workshop items might still conflict with assets used in the map.

If you don't want to/can't play this map but still want to experience prewar City 17 in some way, try City 17 Trainstation Prewar. It's smaller, but gives off the same vibes styles!

//Gameplay//
  • Combination of unique geometry from 12 maps from Half-Life 2, including every d1_trainstation map, two d1_canal maps, and four d3_c17 maps!
  • Six shops; two of which are in and near the plaza, two of which are down near the apartments seen in Half-Life 2, and two on the eastern side of the map close to the highways.
  • Interiors and exteriors de-combined, and cleaned up overall. Trees and grass are fully green
  • Four different apartment buildings; including the one seen in the trainstation levels, one custom building, and two seen in the d3_c17 maps.
  • The entire train station, cleaned and de-combined
  • Part of the canals with higher water levels
  • Three secluded courtyards
  • Spawn room with four teleport destinations
  • Part of the underground highway
  • Kleiner's lab including the former HEV suit room and teleport room.
  • Working traffic lights and quite a long stretch of road, running from the d3_c17 maps back towards the d1_trainstation maps
  • AI nodes across the map. A few aerial nodes in certain areas.

While in the Gmod Sandbox mode, any dead bodies, blood stains, activated map scripts or other changes can be cleaned/reset using this: Pressing Q -> Utilities -> Admin -> Cleanup -> Cleanup Everything

//Development//
This map has been the one I have had in the can the longest. In a sense at least. I originally planned a cleaned up, non-Combine City 17 map back when I made trainstationdistrict, nearly 2 or 3 years ago. That never went anywhere, but it did help me make the pre-war trainstation maps. Those in turn helped make other maps which finally culminated in this.

This is based on the transitblock layout but with cleaner textures, buildings and interiors. Something I planned for once I seriously started to get into making that map. Working on this map also helped find extra issues that weren't reported in that one, so it's been a blessing to work on this.

//Closing//
I am utterly relieved to have this up and out. It's taken a lot of work and feels like the culmination of many projects coming together. While I will monitor the map, do bug fixes and the like, major additions or expansions might not be completely possible as the map is very close to several different engine limits.

As for what's next? I think I will be bringing down the scale of my maps going forward. These last two have been massive and unwieldy to test, compile and design, and likely exclude a portion of those who would like to play these maps. As well, I have another project in the works that is of some size, and I think that will need my attention going forward. That isn't to say I won't be doing Gmod maps, I will! They will just be a bit smaller in scale.

Will this map get updated some day? Theres a bunch of places where the interior windows match the exerior windows texture but aren't see-through, some see-through windows are upside down compared to the fake ones, also you can pick litteral peices of the map mesh with your physics gun. Appart from that this is still a great map. :104:

at first i was pretty annoyed by the changes, but after a bit of noclipping i realised the hl2 maps make 0 sense and would clip into each other if not for them, still looks amazing!
