Pegasus Bridges - Version 2.0

Operation Tonga and Operation Deadstick - June 6th 1944 @00:03 hrs
This map is historically and geographically correct (using numerous historical pictures and maps and information. You will follow in the footsteps of the 6th Airborne division throughout the night until dawn and experience what it would have been like to have been there during the opening shots of D-Day.

This Battle is British faction only (it dose not support the German faction accurately).

1. For attack on Pegasus bridge – After taking the Bridge, move to crossroads and regroup, ambush the Panzer tank , move to take and defend La Port, then head back to outskirts of Benouville, regroup and move on to attack Benouville.
Defend Benouville from counterattack until re-enforcements arrive from the bridges, then counterattack and re-take the town.

2. For attack on Horsa bridge – After taking the Bridge, command your unit across the bridge and wait for the Pathfinders then ambush Major Schmidt (commanding the German 736th).
Join up with the Pathfinders and head back across the bridges to join in the defence of La Port and then on to attack Benouville.

Note: throughout the battle you will be re-enforced by units of the 5th Parachute Brigade - 7th Battalion constantly arriving from the bridges.

Screen shots of the battle were taken in daylight instead of at night so that you can see the scale of the map.
A bonus playing at night has the benefit of increased FPS :
less render distance around 150 – 175% and not needing any shadows.

BATTLE HISTORY:
Operation Tonga the codename given to the airborne operation by the British 6th Airborne Division as a part of Operation Overlord and the D-Day landings. To capture the bridges, Benouville, La port and Ranville Etc.
The paratroopers and glider-borne airborne troops of the division would land on the eastern flank of the invasion area, near to the city of Caen, which were to be used by Allied ground forces to advance once the seaborne landings had taken place.

The 6th Airborne Division would be opposed by the German’s stationed in the area around Caen and the River Orne, this consisted of the 736th and 716th Infantry Divisions.
In support of these static divisions, was the 21st Panzer Division. The 125th Panzer grenadier Regiment just east of Caen and the 2nd Battalion.
The 192nd Panzergrenadier Regiment was to the West of the Caen canal and the River Orne bridges.

Operation Tonga began at 22:56 on the night of 5 June, six Handley Page Halifax heavy bombers took off from RAF Tarrant, Rushton towing six gliders carrying the coup-de-main force, following a few minutes after by pathfinders of the 22nd Independent Parachute Company, who were to mark the three drop-zones to be used later by the airborne Paratroopers and the Gliders carrying heavy equipment.

Part of Operation Tonga was Operation Deadstick, also known as Coup de Main Party -
Operation Deadstick Objectives - The two bridges:

The Caen canal (Bénouville side), Target defined as“Euston ”I’ now known as Pegasus Bridge (Ham).
The Orne river (Ranville side), Target defined as “Euston II” now known as Horsa bridge (Jam).

Both bridges have to be under Allied control and remain intact. If the operation was Successful the radio codes Ham & Jam would be transmitted. This mission is under the responsibility of D company (2nd Ox & Bucks) led by Major Howard, as well as the 7th battalion of the 5th Parachute Brigade.

A small force of 180 troops in 6 Horsa gliders (28 in each), from Major Howards - D Company, 2nd Airborne Battalion, Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, 6th Air landing brigade, 6th Airborne Division.
Three landing near the Caen canal bridge and two near the Orne River bridge and the third landed about fourteen kilometres away, near a bridge across the river Dives, His pilot took that bridge for the Horsa bridge. they secured the two bridges in less than 20 mins and a number of villages were also later occupied.
A bridgehead was formed and they successfully repulsed a number of German counter-attacks until Allied ground forces from the invasion beaches reached their positions.

What a game - Easy Red 2 Editor allows us to make such historically accurate battles that we can fully immerse ourselves in and the atmosphere it generates makes it feels like we are actually re-living that moment.
Many thank to the developers who are constantly updating this brilliant game.

Really great map, but the German spawns are not timed with the phases, and usually result in Germans spawning RIGHT on your objective when you capture.

If you could fix this, then we'd have such an amazing mission.

Beautiful map, but when I did play the resistance was very light and felt verry jarring in most places. Just goes to show what the mission editor is capable off in the right hands.

I'm sure you'll get it right mate, will keep this subbed as it's the best looking on the workshop as of right now!
