Laudanum Heals Stress

Description
Description:
This mod makes a few minor changes to Laudanum:
- (Unchanged from base game) Can be used to remove Horror.
- Can now also be consumed even if you are not affected by Horror.
- Heals 5 points of stress damage per bottle* (see note below).
- Its price has been increased from 100 gold to 150 gold.
- Its description tooltip has been updated.

* Note regarding consumption spamming:
- You can spam all bottles on one character if you are desperate for some stress healing, but if you get into this habit you won't have any left for when you do get Horror and need to cure it. Drink responsibly.
- If you build the Tainted Well district from the DLC, you can't spam it anymore, see why below.



Tainted Well district:
The mod should work with and without the Color of Madness DLC. This DLC allows you to build the Tainted Well district, which adds an additional -40% Stress buff for 3 rounds when you consume Laudanum. This hasn't changed, but I added the additional 5 points of stress healing. If you do build the district, do know that you will no longer be able to spam laudanum consumption until the 3 rounds for the stress buff have passed, I believe this is a vanilla effect but I didn't want to change this because I think it balances the benefits quite nicely, otherwise you would be able to spam stress buffs for an insame amount, -40% stress is already a VERY good buff so that should protect your character quite a bit until he/she can take a second dose.

How to change Laudanum stats:
If you want to increase/decrease the amount of stress healing Laudanum has, or increase/decrease the amount of gold Laudanum bottles cost, I wrote a step-by-step guide on how to change it here.[pastebin.com]

Why I made this
I made this mostly for myself but I wanted to share it with others that want to use it.

The reasoning behind it is this: Laudanum is one of those items that I think most people rarely buy or even consider taking at all with them when going on a quest (with a few exceptional situations). I wanted to give it a bit more use without unbalancing the item too much. Stress is a huge part of the game, so anything changing it must be considered carefully. In part, this is why I gave Laudanum such a tiny amount of stress healing, and I also didn't want to make positive quirks that protect you from stress or camp skills that cure stress seem superfluous compared to Laudanum.

The price increase also reflects a bit of rebalance for the item, after you get enough money and the Bank district, gold is pretty much not an issue, on the other hand, by that time your stress healing skills and your choice of quirks may also protect you a bit more from stress, so buying Laudanum plays a bigger role during early to mid game in which you aren't rich, but you could certainly use some additonal sources of stress healing, particularly for key moments in which enemies focus their stress attacks on one of your characters to make it afflicted.

By the end game, 5 stress healing per bottle may not seem much, but if you manage to get enough Shards to build the Tainted Well district the -40% Stress buff you get will be more meaningful for short bursts of protection, and with this mod you can make use of that buff whenever you want instead of waiting to be affected by Horror effect (in the base game you can't 'consume' Laudanum unless you have Horror first), but it only lasts for 3 rounds and you won't be able to spam laudanum consumption anymore, so I think it's an interesting tradeoff.

@Anthon: it's essentially a copy of the default Laudanum, what the mod does is replace the default Laudanum item with a copy of it that looks the same, acts the same, but since for all purposes it's a 'new' item that uses the base common item template let's say, it allows for it to be used whenever you could use any other item. Think of it as if it was just a copy of Holy Water for example, just with different art, and different effect. The effect is the same one as base Laudanum plus an extra stress healing effect. :stress:

This is also why the mod looks like it should work with other things affecting Laudanum but unfortunately that's not how it works, because anything depending on the default Laudanum is pointing to a different item that is not the one I'm using in this mod, even if they look and feel the same, they are different items. :cozybethesda:

Great mod. Thank you for providing a guide within the files so I was easily able to change the stress heal amount, and corresponding description to match it. Attention to detail like that is awesome.

Its possible to change the codeline of laudanum for the original without problem? Because this mod conflicts with other mod who requires original laudanum

Is it possible to make the stress heal be a range rather than just be 5 stress heal?

One issue i have observed is that your Laundanum is a new item apart from the vanilla laudanum file. The only issue with this is for example, in Ardous edition mod, there are curios that are activated with vanilla laudanum and thus wont work. ( also mods who show stacking visual change in inventory also reflects its not the same entity as vanilla)

Could you make a version of this mod that doesn't increase the cost? Would be wonderful for individuals like me that are pretty bad at the game despite a lot of hours :)

Mod is working as intended, I've been using it myself without any issues, sounds like you may have a conflict with another mod that is making this one non-functional.
