Description
Sweet Chestnut (Castanea Sativa) - a deciduous tree native to Southern Europe & Asia Minor, and naturalised across much of Europe. It has long glossy toothed leaves, straight stems and bears edible chestnuts. Only distantly related to the Horse Chestnut.

These trees are capable of growing incredibly old and with a huge trunk girth - the “Hundred-Horse Chestnut” on Mt Etna, Sicily is estimated to be 2,000 to 4,000 years old.

I’ve gone with much more modest ages for these assets, and there are 2 versions - a standard with single trunk & full crown, and a coppiced version. Coppicing is the practice of cutting a tree back to its base in order to promote multiple stems. Coppiced sweet chestnut is common in woodland across France and South East UK.

These work great for forests - particularly the coppiced version as it’s pretty low tri, and I’ve given it a bit of an exaggerated crown so it generates a nice LOD and will create a dense canopy. The standard version will also work great for parkland etc with it’s elegant crown.

Ingame height: 19.5m, 17m

All screenshots taken with temperate theme and Filmic 44 LUT.

No dependencies but Random Tree Rotation mod is highly recommended.
Loading Screen mod will make sure assets with shared textures do in fact share them rather than load duplicates (saving RAM).

I love your prairie plants and grasses! I can now make my own Piet Oudolf gardens! The Blue Bells give some nice subtle color. If you're still developing this theme, would you please accept my suggestion of "Queen of the Prairie" (Filipendula rubra)? That will give some pink color. Piet Oudolf uses these all the time to mix with the grasses.
